“Great place for that town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2012

We ended up one night only in Barahona returning from Pedernales (Baya de Las Aguilas). Since it was too long to drive from there to the Capital, we decided to have a stop in Barahona, 3 hours drive East from Pedernales.
The Hotel is great, it got a nice pol, rooms are clean, staff is smiling; wifi is in the pool area and inside the rooms located in the 3rd and 4th floors. It's well maintained, gardeners are doing their good job there and generally the Hotel surpassed my expectations, as outside in Barahona there is absolutely nothing to see and do.
The Hotel has a lovely private Beach but the sea is horrible there due to a river whose mouth is nearby. It's the best hotel in that town.
We opted to choose the half board, i.e. dinner, overnight & breakfast included in room rate, apps. 4.800 Pesos per room. It's more than ok for that place where, again, there is nothing but the quarry of Larimar stone nearby.
The elevator was "temporary" out of work but it's ok, even though I was at the top floor.

Very nice hotel right in from of the Caribbean Sea. The service is excellent. We stayed here for a wedding. everything was well decorated, the food was great and the employees always have a big smile to share with the guests. They even gave us an extra room free of charge so all the bridesmaids could change clothes and do our hair comfortably. The pool is very nice and they have a special area designated just for children. The hotel is located on a nice spot if you want to go around and visit places like San Rafael, malecon or some other neat attractions in the South of the Dominican republic.

My daughter was on a medical mission and was turning "21" during her stay. I wanted to do something special for her so I contacted the hotel by e-mail, asking if they could possibily get my daughter a simple rose or a piece of cake to be given at dinner to celebrate her birthday. It was'nt 15 minutes later and the phone rang. Joe the manager called asking how he could help! I explained my simple request. He offered to make a big enough cake for the entire medical team, decorate it & present it to her at dinner!! He did it!! What a special surprise!! It is a blessing to deal with such caring people who spend their precious time going out of their way for others!! Thank you Joe!! You are appreciated!!

A very pleasant surprize to find such high quality food, service, and the entire property clean.Friendly, professional staff, that are very well trained was very refreshing. The qualiy was high American standards but with a big Dominican smile on top. We would return to Barahona just to stay at the Costa Larimar, a jewel in itself! Michele in the dining room was especially attentive and hard working. From the front desk to the chambermaid everyone contributed to a great stay. The absolute best in barahona!

The hotel was clean and the buffet was wonderful. It was a great to relax by the pool and beach. There are mangrove islands in the cove that you can swim to from the hotel beach. We saw wild horses a couple of times on the beach. The staff was attentive. There is gated parking and full time security and the urban location is a convenience. The rooms are large with balconies. The beds are very comfortable. I recommend a trip to the waterfalls and the disco in town was great. Overall a great vacation and affordable.

I stayed here in March 2010 (sorry for the late review) while visiting Bahrona on a medical mission trip. The hotel was better than expected. Very clean and fairly modern, considering the location. The food was okay, plenty of selections. We avoided the lettuce and other raw vegetables/fruits that couldn't be peeled. A few people in our group did get upset stomachs after the first night. There is a nice little bar that stays open late. The hotel has a nice pool/patio area which opens up to the most wonderful views of the ocean. Make sure to take a walk along the beach ... you'll spot lots of local children and maybe even a cow or two!

A very nice choice, the hotel is samll, but beautifull, a little dusty, but all Barahona is. the hotel haves a marvelous beach, with two little mangrooves islands (see fotos) you can reach swimming easily (beware beyond the islands, the sea current is strong) the pool bar is superb for a nice rum and tonic sunset.

There are armies of mosquitoes in the evening (mangroove always are good mosquito providers) even with a man fogging them every day (I swear I heard the mosquitos laugh at him) but use repellent and they will be more friendly.

Don't spect much of the food at the hotel restaurant, not a very diversificated menu, but the food is good. Drinks are better.

Around Barahona you can find a treasure of sightseeing places, from Playa los Patos to Pedernales, Cabo Rojo, Polo, and the Lake Enriquillo (rent a car, and always travel with your papers, the frontier is near, and here is the army that rules, not the police)

The hotel have arrengements for include brakfast, lunch, dinner or combinations, make a phone call and ask, is worthy beacause there not many places to eat at the town, but for lunch, there is a fishr's village about 15 minutes south of barahona where you can pick your meal while it's still moving.
