“Chiapan restaurant experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

Las Pichanchas is a good choice if you're looking for the
Chiapan experience. The food was good and dinner included Chiapan folk dancers and lots of bell-ringing when anyone orders a pumpos, the local drink that's similar to a pina colada. It's a fun experience, but not the place I'd go if you're looking for a quiet or romantic evening.

“Great diversity of wonderful Chiapas food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

The restaurant is a classic. They have an ample and wonderful selection of some of the best Chiapas food. It's a great place to sample different dishes, particularly if you go with more than 2 people. Dishes include different local tamales (e.g., chipilín, cambray), rellenitos (plantain patties stuffed with refried beans and served with cream and fresh cheese), soups, meats, desserts and a local drink called "pombo". When a pombo gourd is served, you have to ring the bell right next to your table. They also sell all kinds of local food at the little shop which you can take home. The Ocosingo cheese is particularly good, as are the tamales, chillies from Simojovel, organic coffee, etc. It's a great treat at a very affordable price!

“Food From Chiapas that you can't miss!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

To get a taste of local food you should go here. It isn't too expensive and depending on the day you go, there is music and folk dancing

“Food is decent but not as good as the entertainment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

The food is decent and reasonable at this restaurant. The main reason to go there is to hear the waiters ring the bells and shout "Sale pumpo" all night when customers order the very weak but delicious alcoholic drink served in a gourd, though. The drink consists of pineapple juice, lime juice, vodka and crushed ice.

At 9 pm every night, they provide a dinner show consisting of dancers dressed in the local attire of the Tzotzil & Tzeltal Maya in the area. It is quite entertaining! I recommend this to anyone traveling through the area and I would definitely go there again, myself.
