At the end of October, 2013, we stayed for 3 nights. Tapachula was a great city to be in for Day of the Dead, ant the Hotel Yacaamo was a real good deal. We paid 200 pesos, or $15.30, for a huge room with 2 double beds.
The front desk was very friendly. We were warned the wi-fi only worked in the "lobby" but it worked at the end of the hallway on the second floor, where there was a table and sofas. This area was a fine common area, and we were happy the signal reached.
All the available rooms were left open and we were free to choose the room that suited us. We walked into 3 rooms and they were of similar size, layout, and were all very clean. Very spacious. The desk was 24 hours.
The bathrooms had cold water only, but Tapachula is quite sultry, so no worries. There was a walk-in closet that had ample shelving. This was also our first room in four months with a phone in it. We did not touch it,though. The room had a major satellite company providing channels, dish networks. Like the phone, it was something we would never expect in this price range. Beds were quality, as were linens.
Rooms were cleaned without request. The hotel was a 2 minute walk from the square, and 10 seconds from an oxxo store.
All rooms were set back out of view from the street, which means you cannot hear traffic, which means so much to us. True peace and quiet. The only downside was that the rooms all overlooked a central courtyard that did not belong to the hotel, and was being used by a neighboring pet shop to wash dogs. They were not loud, but it was sort of strange to look down upon, within such close range.
This is a great budget spot. We spent 3 months in Mexico, and this was one of the best values, and one of our most comfortable stays.
