I traveled for three months in China and Thailand and I think that the Baan Tung Guest House probably had the best room I stayed in for the money paid. Other reviews have mentioned what are in the rooms so I won't repeat all that info. I stayed in Mae Sot for a couple nights en route to Umphang, which is where the Thee Lor Su waterfall is located. The staff at Baan Tung were really friendly and helpful at all times and Stalin (the main guy who was there most of the time) even connected me via phone with the owner of the Guest House and she kindly offered helpful suggestions for getting to Umphang (and she spoke fluent English). So all in all, my room was comfortable and clean and I was happy with it and would highly recommend staying there.

I stayed at Baan Tung for just under a month. The prices are reasonable, rooms are very clean, staff friendly and knowledgeable, and location central. While I was at Baan Tung, it was fairly quiet with regular wireless internet access. Stalin, in the main office, is a phenomenal source of information and guidance and has excellent English. Getting to know him was a perk of living here. Food options-- both local and expat-- are nearby and it is a quick 10 minute walk to the day market (20 minutes to the night market). I will definitely stay here in the future and would recommend it to anyone.

baan tung was a small village at one time, on the outskirts of mae sot but growth over the past 10 years or so means that it is now part of the 'city' of mae sot - yes, city, self governance - just like hua hin and phuket 'city' but not like in any other aspect - no sea and go go bars here, thank goodness! the guest house used to be a school and was sympathetically restored a couple of years ago. as with the other reviews, the rooms are fab, yes the guy next door plays his guitar from time to time, but hey, don't come to mae sot (or thailand) if you don't like noise. stalin is an excellent 'mine host' and there is a new housekeeper, so the place 'sparkles' again. my selling point is the atmosphere - this is just such a nice place to BE!

Room tip: A/C are around 500.00 and fan 350.00 (average prices for Mae Sot) - negotiable for long stay. Book well in advance - this place does not advertise, word of mouth, returns, so busy!

The guest house and the stuff are really nice, but you have to stay on the second floor, otherwise you'll have to stay in a very dark and quite oppressive room. The rooms have everything you need, except perhaps light, they have a fridge, aircon, fan, wifi, desk, big bed... One disadvantage is the very noisy neighborhood, someone plays e-guitar nearly every day and night, sometimes all day long too.

The rooms in Baan Tung GH are great - huge, well equipped (large refrigerator, TV with English channels, a desk etc.), and the location is good - on a quiet side street but very close to the popular Casa Mia restaurant and within walking distance from the day market. Staff is very nice as well.
