I sprang for an air-con room for 450 baht. Still excellent value. The room was very large, with marble flooring, big windows and a small balcony. The two beds were a little soft, but better that than rock-hard. Sheets were a bit slick -- not natural fiber, for sure, but acceptable. Towels, on the other hand were large and seemed pure cotton. There's wifi and also paid internet in the lobby @ 15 baht/hr. 199 cable channels is a mild exaggeration; some were repeats and a few were dead bands, but still... Want news in English? Choose among BBC, Al Jazeera English, Fox News (pls. don't) and English language news from Germany and Korea. There's music vids, sports, and TV from Burma. Very little English is spoken by staff, but it wasn't a problem and they were very sweet. Altogether an excellent place.

7 or 8 hours bus trip will take you to this little border town Mae Sot of Thailand and Burma.
I might describe it as a little town, but it's quite busy from 3am, cause it's a bussines gate to Burma. I've visited this town for 4times and stayed at DK hotel 3times. This town has nothig much to visit, but you can fiend many forreiners who works as NGO volantiers for those Burmese refugess and migrant workers.
There are quite a number of guest houses, one 4 star hotel, five to six 3 star hotels in Mae Sot. Among all, DK hotel is good for me to stay. 3storied building facing the main road and it is in the centre of town. No elevators, fan room and airconditioned rooms with hot water and private toilet bathrooms which are very very clean. The airconditioned rooms are large for a price of 450Thb for a night.
2bottles of water and towels, body soaps and toilet papers are replaced daily while house keeping is done. Free wifi and a small tv with a number of satellite international channels.Hotel rents bicycles and you can get a motor bike for rent at the shop next to the hotel. No restaurants or food at the hotel, but many many shops around. Nothing special to write ,but DK hotel is very clean, large rooms, resonable good price, and at the centre of town. I recommend it, and will stat there everytime I make a trip to Mae Sot.

Room tip: The hotel does not have a elevator, so if you hate stairs, ask for the rooms on the second floor. They have also opend a brand new building at the back yard, so it is also good for staying there giving extra 50THB.

Dark halls and uninspiring rooms. God help you if they put you on the 3rd or 4th floor in this hotel with no elevator! Air con didn't work so well. Staff does not go out of their way to be friendly, but will serve you rather swiftly. Located in a noisy and so-so convenient part of town. I had to stay here after Baan Thai lost my reservation (something they are famous for), and the better guest houses and hotels were full. I would not consider staying at DK again. Check out Phannu House as a better alternative in the same price range.

I stayed at the DK for one night earlier this year. The desk clerk was friendly and professional. The room was clean albeit somewhat spartan. The bathroom, which is always my litmus test for hotel rooms, was clean and well ventilated. The mattress was clean but hard. Other than that the room was comfortable. The air-condition was nice and cold and worked fine. The bottle water was complementary and that was nice. There was a computer for internet access in the lobby for 20 bahts per hour.

The location was another positive feature. Lots of restaurants and street vendors within blocks so you don't have to restrict yourself to the ones outside the hotel. There is also a supermarket a few blocks away.

The staff was somewhat reserved but helpful. I had trouble working the pay phones and asked the clerk for help. She let me use her mobile phone. She was also helpful in giving me directions to catch the bus.

After staying at another hotel for 450 baht, I left and tried this one. For 450 baht, you get a simple and clean air-conditioned room, hot water, satellite TV with several English channels, and wifi (fan rooms are available for less). It also provides daily towels, soap, and drinking water. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance of the main market and several popular hangouts for tourists and local expats are a short walk away (there are also plenty of motorcycle taxis at every corner). For its price, this is hands-down the best value for money in town. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is located in a little cul-de-sac that has a laundry service shop, a clothing shop, restaurant, and wifi enabled coffee shop, and a 7-11 is right around the corner. Unless you're on an extremely tight budget, this is the spot - there are hotels located a few blocks deeper in town, but the market area around Mae Sot is seedy and loud at night.
