Was at Seoraksan National Park for only a day. (should be more) Stayed at the Tourist hotel nearby.
Took the cable car ride to the observation deck. The view take my breath away! Didn't walk up to the summit as the path was slippery with ice.
Plan to come back here again next time

I like the foggy white scenary at Seoraksan but not the wet and slippery ground that greeted all the visitors. Our shoes and boots were all wet from the outside to the inside and freezing cold!

If you are hesitant about hiking in Seoraksan in winter with kids (like I was), I may offer you some encouragement.

We hiked with two kids aged 8 and 10 years in mid December. Temperatures were at highs of about 0 and lows of -5 degree celsius. Coming from a tropical country, we put on 4 layers: thermal wear, ordinary t-shirt, jacket and coat. Hats and gloves. Ordinary running shoes. We felt just about OK except for our toes, which at times felt frozen. May be we should have worn two layers of socks, or better hiking shoes.

We did the Ulsanbawi trail in the morning in 4.5 hrs. We spent about 2.5 hours on the cable car ride plus hike. We also did the Biryeong fall trail the next day in about 2 hours.

The good thing about winter was that crowd was thin, no queue for the cable car, more room and longer stays at the summits. Because it snowed before we arrived, the scenery was decidedly wintery. The Biryeong waterfall and the Yukdam cascades along the way were frozen but the frozen icy world was beautiful in its own way.

The kids loved the hikes as much as the adults.

We took the cable car to the observation deck. The view of the snow-capped and textured mountains was wonderful. It's a very welcome change of scenery.

Seoraksan is one of 20 national parks in Korea. After visiting about 12 of these, Seoraksan, Hallasan, and Jirisan are perhaps the most breathtaking. Seoraksan inspires the same fantastic wild adventure you have visiting some of the United States iconic national parks. While the entrance sections of the park are very busy (particularly in the summer), once you get away from the main area, you are free from noise, crowds, and likely your own stress.

Seoraksan is the perfect getaway for those who love hiking, the park is full of trails. Once you get away from the entrance, silence abounds, and the beauty of the granite peaks (and long hikes) make your heart beat faster.

This gem in Korea's national park system should not be missed. After visiting Seoraksan you are sure to be already planning your next visit to a different national park in Korea.
