I went there with my husband for a romantic weekend, but it was really bad. All of the facilities were closed... the casino, both the bars and the room service stopped at 10pm. We weren't told any of this when we booked the room. When I complained the guy at the reception just looked nervous and said nothing until I went away. The room was clean, but in serious need of redecorating. They had tried to cover up the threadbare armchairs with cloths. I really recomend that people think twice before booking this place.

We travelled through korea in october and one of the thing you "have to do" is to go to mount seorak and climb on it. Well, I don't agree with that any more unless you love millions of korean pensioners in climbing gear hustling and bustling around from 7 o'clock in the morning until late nite, pushing queues for cable cars etc. we chose the hotel because of it's unique location- directly at the entrance to the park. they only had an ondol room left- which was stuffy, not very clean, had an ugly with linoleum flooring and in generell the whole place was run-down and old. we paid an incredible 120$ per night, which is just a total rip-off for this place. my advise for korea travellers: stay clear of seorak national park, at least in high season (which like runs from spring to late autumn). the whole area was so overcrowded, it was a nightmare. there are so many more mountains in korea, especially in the inland, so if you have to climb do it some other place. i do not recommend this hotel at all, but judging from our look a t the surrounding places (sorak park, kensington stars) they didn't seem that much better and even more expensive. sokcho town is quite seedy and not really worth a visit either.
so- better avoid the place alltogether...

I read the previous review of this place which compared it to The Shining. The only thing missing was a child writing REDRUM on the wall. We even had the strange fellow staring out the window while we approached. It was an on going joke for us which took away from the overall damper experience.

I came here with friends from Seoul for a weekend of relaxation. We read that the place had various facilities, like a spa and a noraebong (singing room). But we soon learned that there was no spa and the noraebong was closed. We asked for them to open it, but after hearing 'waygook' several times (foreigner) we were told that we had to spend a high amount on food and drink just to have the priveledge. We declined.

Later that night I asked for a blanket. The guy told me it cost 12$! I'm not buying the thing! After I told them what I thought of their world veiw with the help of whiskey, a friend calmly dealt with the situation and got the blanket. He is a better man than I.

All this was probably because it was off-season. The room was huge and nice (ask for a room ending in --1. No balcony, but gigantic). The resteraunt was way too expensive, we did not eat there. There are some places near the hotel, although only stictly Korean. Even if you like Korean as we do, the menus are limited.

Nightlife was limited, actually non-existent. We had to get a cab to town (10$) to go to a noraebong and bar. Must note, though, that the staff was prompt about getting us a taxi.

There's a casino, but we did not make it there. We need some pre-gambling action before we hit the tables.

Maybe this place is OK in the summer, but stay away in the off season. No spa, no noraebong, rude staff, very little around, 20 minute walk to the park. But nice rooms and fun thinking you're in a movie, even if its a horror flick!

Well, if you want to stay in a hotel that would remind you of the hotel in Stephen King's the Shining -- and I don't mean that like in a I want to stay in a cool haunted house kinda place -- stay at the Sorak Park. It must've been something, back in 1975. Now the hotel is just...eerie. Like whoever owns it doesnt care for much except bringing in money. Rooms felt old. Sheets old. Carpet... creepy old. Service was fine, but drinks at the completely empty bar at night were incredibly overpriced. The western breakfast was, well, interesting. I would recommend finding a newer hotel, closer to Sokcho at the coast.
