“Wonderful location, facilities and staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

My friend and I spent 2 nights here in October 2013 and chose to stay here based on reviews from other travellers who have visited Seoraksan. It really has a nice and cosy atmosphere here - and I must say that we fell in love with this place and city. Our double room was simple and clean with an ensuite bathroom that was complete with hand soap and shampoo. Towels are provided. We were most happy to see a hairdryer in our room.

When we first arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and asked us to take a seat. Mr Yoo (the owner) appeared a moment later to greet us and provided us with a tourist map of Sokcho and subsequently gave us a walkthrough on what to see and what to eat here. He even provided us with a guidance on how much it would cost to eat the recommended food at the food joints that he has recommended to us and how much it would cost to go to Seoraksan on the local bus (I noticed later that he does this for all guests who are checking in). Overall, the staff are ever ready to help you with any enquiries that you may have.

The hostel also provides bicycles for free... all you need to do is to choose your bicycle from the bicycle store and bring it back once you are done with it. The one thing you should do before you go exploring in Sokcho on one of those bicycles is to check that the brakes are working well on your chosen bike. (p/s: Yoo's big white fluffy dog is likely to follow you into the bicycle store when you open the door to the store... just shoo him off in a nice way when you want to get out)

In terms of location, the hostel is easy to find as it is only a very short walk from the Sokcho bus terminal. You would not go hungry too if you feel hungry in the middle of the night as the nearest convenient store from the hostel is about 50m away on foot.

For anyone with a smartphone who doesn't intend to switch on data roaming to avoid an outrageously huge phone bill, the hostel provides a fast wifi connection for free... but don't let that be the reason to keep you in your room when you can go outdoors to enjoy the many beautiful sights during the day.

Free breakfast is provided in the morning - just make your own toast, bowl of cereal, tea or coffee. You can choose to have your breakfast at the dining table next to the kitchen counters, or at the tables set up on the patio and terrace... and if you happen to sit at the outdoor table nearest to the dog house, you'll be accompanied by the dog. It really feels just like home!

We spent 2 nights there in september 2013 and we enjoyed it very much. The room was clean , a bit old-fashioned but ok. the owner is very helpful, always keen to answer questions and advise his customers. he gave us all the info about the bus to Seoraksan. there is a very nice and relaxed , backpacker atmosphere. the breakfast is ok. But stay away from the dog ;-)

I mainly went there as I wanted to stay close to the bus terminal. I was very surprised about the good command of English of the staff and their kindness. They give you recommendations for food, sightseeing etc. without being intrusive. One of my best low budget stays in South Korea!

Don't miss to go to coffee house malgm - perfect cappuccino and nice interior design!

I visited 2 years ago and came back this year again with my father. We got a bunk bed but otherwise the ensuite room was same quality. It's not much but somehow it feels cozy. Clean room and nice common areas, free breakfast and better PCs than last time. Owner is still helpful and nothing much changed in the city of Sokcho. Still a perfect city to relax and soak in the coast atmosphere.

while the room at the house is fairly decent but not extraordinary (new and clean, fridge&TV, correct bathroom, a bit small), two things clearly pull The House out of the standard :
- the common rooms and airy terrasse are so homy and fun to stay for either breakfast or chat or waiting for team member before heading out. Indeed the kitchen could be cramped at breakfast peak hour, but there is always free sits on the terrasse, and The House makes sure that dirty plates are not piling up, so that the sink remains clean and you have fresh tableware when you come down.
- but the truly outstanding is Mr Yoo and his wife who will stretch thin to make sure that your stay is memorable, explaining in details what to do \ where to go, walking 5mn with me to a recommended local restaurant (that refused us foreigners in fear of not being able to handle our tastes\order) so that we are finally welcome and extremely well treated, or just as we were arriving, calling a hairdresser who obviously had overcharged two lady guests of The House.
Mr Yoo is a gem in the world of guesthouses.

I stayed here 2 yrs ago during my trip to Korea (March 2011). The host was very kind.My friends and I arrived at the hostel around midnight, but that didn't stop him from explaining the places of interests around Sokcho. He asked 10 minutes from us to explain everything, from places to go, to which bus to get. It helped us a lot during our stay there.

I had to write a review because I loved this place so much. They got awards from tripadvisor.com and simply want to add the place is still worthy of the praise. I have never gotten so much help from a hostel. As soon as you walk in the host greeted us and showed us where to go. He pretty much planned out our trip for us giving us suggestions to us where to go, places to eat, and the sort.

The free bikes are in desperate need of repair but they are free so no loss. The bus system is good enough to get around without the bikes and this place is close to a bus stop so it is not that big of a deal. I would definitely come here again. So far, it is the best guest house I have been to.
