Except that its far from the city... This hotel is one of the best place to stay if your in GenSan.. The food ( even though not free ) is excellent.... I wish to go back here someday... Hopefully next time I can do some fishing in the lake....

Arrived Sunday afternoon at around 12:30. Pool unavailable as they were setting up for a function. Workers setting up had ear-splitting bass and drum heavy, ahem..."music" blasting through the sound system. This continued until around 7:00 p when the function took over and we were "treated" to a continuous barrage of a really bad karaoke duet. Two of the worst which in this country full of bad karaoke singers is saying something. Couldn't sleep. It turns out the function was a birthday party the owner of the resort was throwing for himself. Can you say narcissist? Anyway, when I finally called the front desk at around 10:00 p to inquire as to when the function was going to end I was informed at around midnight/one o'clock. At that point I firmly voiced my displeasure over the whole imbroglio and reminded her that the owner has paying customers who are trying to sleep. I mentioned that I shouldn't have to pay for this days visit but it didn't seem that she was receptive to my suggestion. The sound system was finally lowered about an hour later and I drifted off to sleep only to be awoken at...4:40 a.m. by the blaring radio of the caretaker of the fish farm that is adjacent to the resort. He kept that on for 20 minutes and I drifted back to sleep only to be awoken at...5:45 by a barking dog outside my door followed by a parade pf people speaking in loud voices when whispering would've sufficed or even silence in deference to the other guests. Resort...no. Where I am from we call this a campground. Big difference. Also might mention that the owners also own the Tierra Montana Hotel in GenSan which I had booked earlier in my trip on the strength of their swimming pool. I scheduled for 6 days there but left after 3. The pool was never available as it was being treated. I deserve a couple nights credit from these people but it doesn't seem that this is how it works in this country.

Positives:

1. If you want peace and quiet, this is the place to be. It can be noisy during the day because of kids using the resort's pool but it was very peaceful at night.

2. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. They even called for a cab when we wanted to go and check out downtown.

3. Pool is nice and clean and big.

4. Food available in the resort was good.

5. Staff picked us up from the airport on day of arrival and brought us on departure date.

6. Stayed at "matrimonial" cottage and it was bigger than I expected. The bathroom was clean and everything worked. There was hot water and water pressure was great.

Negatives:

1. The resort is 18 km from GenSan. Cab ride was 350 pesos one way. Resort does not provide a shuttle although they have a sister hotel in downtown GenSan. Maybe they should consider having a scheduled trip(s) back and forth so people are more likely to visit their resort.

2. They have the wrong number(s) posted on their website. A friend of mine had to contact local directory assistance to get their current number.

3. They have an intercom system in the cottages but it worked on and off. We can only contact the restaurant but not the front desk when we needed towels in the room.

4. If you are hungry, expect to get hungrier. Service is slow and you have to ask for everything. Literally everything: glass of water, silverware, ashtray. The servers do not know how to anticipate nor do they try to find out what else you need.

5. There are flies everywhere. I don't know why this resort cannot have those "bug lights" that I've seen in some of the better resorts that I've been. Then at night, mosquitoes take over. So, insect repellant at night is highly recommended.

6. There is no cable TV in the cottages so you're stuck with local channels. In this age of big TVs, Isla Parilla still has 13-inch screens in the rooms. There is one big TV located in the restaurant connected to a satellite dish. So if you want HBO or the like, you have to stay in the restaurant.

7. There is no wi-fi or wired internet access on the resort. This is a little ridiculous considering that it doesn't cost any more money to have a third party provider of internet services.

8. Guests must go through the restaurant to go to their cottage. There's always a trail of water from guests who are returning from the pool in various stages of undress. I'm sure there is a way to reroute traffic without passing through the restaurant.

We stayed at Isla Parilla in Sarangani because we wanted to be near the white sand beach of Glan, Sarangani and at the same time stay in the province's capital.
The cottages and the restaurant were built in the middle of the man-made pond that had brackish water. This set up made the resort airy and quite peaceful. Waking up in the morning to this kind of place was indeed a good way to destress oneself. The breeze was quite cool in the evenings and eating dinner in their open-air restaurant was a good way to spend the evenings.
The staff were accommodating and were very pleasant. However, the cooking of ordered dishes took a lot of time which made us learn to order way ahead of each meal. The pool was big, even having a separate kiddie pool. It was large enough to practice one's swimming skills. However, the sides of the deep part have to cleaned since algae has already stuck to the tiles.
Each cottage has two bedrooms that are spacious and clean. The same goes for the toilet and bath. The most interesting part is that the rates are very affordable! We only paid Php 1,900.00 for each cottage!
Given the chance, I will definitely go back to isla parilla. Over-all, my family and I enjoyed our stay there.
