“Great deal, new & clean”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Stayed in the Dorm with Fan (250PHP). Very neat and clean, own locker for each bed, clean linen.
The people there were friendly. Location was pretty good, next to the cathedral, two minutes walking from main streets.
From the bus station you can just take a jeepney to the cathedral and then walk to the hostel.

Small breakfast provided, rolls, fresh fruit, and unlimited tea, coffee and water.
WIFI worked well, there was also a common computer provided.

Nice roof top, with pretty awesome views of Mount Mayon.

Moved for one night into AC dorm, as the other one was full, the AC dorm was also good - same facitlites as FAN dorm room.

Only downside is that it had hardly any guests during the weekdays, but got crowded on the weekend.

Suggestion for the hostel: Offer some bicycles for rent. Legaspi is perfect for taking a bicycle, but there is not a single place in the city to hire them.

After staying at Caramoan for three days, we went straight to Albay to visit good places and see the Mayon volcano. As part of our package tour, a van picked up us at the terminal going to Mayon Backpackers Hostel (but paid 200 pesos for the pickup). The hostel was really designed for backpackers, it has a living room with a computer kiosk, dining area and a kitchen where you can cook and store your foods at the refrigerator. The room was satisfactory, though the double deck was not stable (it swayed during my sleep). It has its own toilet/comfort room inside, and clean and big enough but had poor water supply...toilet flush was not working, shower had little water and had to wait more than five minutes to fill the pail with water. What I had liked best in the hostel was the viewing deck where we can see the Mayon volcano, and we can stargaze at night. Or better else, if the bar at the viewing deck is open, then we could have had more enjoyable overnight stay at the Mayon Backpackers Hostel.

Before going to sleep, Me and a friend had decided to take the night-town-tour. The hostel had its own contracted tricycle where they took us to good places to visit especially at night. We had fun but we did not expected for the two of us would cost 300 pesos (the reception at the hostel told us that it would only cost us like 60-70 pesos, but then we did not). After the night-town-tour, it was really good taking coffee while stargazing at the deck especially when the coffee is free! oh well, teas, hot chocos, and coffees are all free...plus the wifi! (to keep my Instagram buddies updated!)

My sleep? Good enough, I’m too tired that I never cared falling from the rocking bed, but had to maintain one sleep position...good air-condition and good that I sleep with lights off (that’s why id never cared of the two bulbs not working well in our tinikling room!)

In the morning, there were free bunch of pandesal! their local pandesal! and it was really good! and of course our free choices of hot choco, coffee or hot tea!!

We were a bit late, or really late to our tour, our wakeup call was supposed at 7am but we left the hostel like past 9am. Because we took a lot of time taking shower with slow water! Kunyang driver was early waiting for us and finally we'd left the hostel together with our things just in case we would finish the tour late in the afternoon that we need to catch the bus going back to Manila on time.

The tour had became like "do-it-ourselves." the what we have thought of 'tour guide-driver' or driver-tour guide' had became like 'one-of-us'?/ who know nothing about the place, the history, and the story behind everything about Albay. Our sort was to asked Kuyang driver to feed our curiosity but we starved. He couldn’t answer our questions. Thanks to land markings, we learned it though them. We didn’t even have had a lot of complete group pictures, kuyang driver didn’t even bothered taking us. He only served as our driver, bad for the package tour.

Anyway, it was really fun to see beautiful places in Albay, tasting their scrumptous delicacies like Zagitsit's bicol express and bopis and barbeque, Lignon's spareribs and super chili Bicol’s express, SMALLTALK CAFE's must try Pasta best sellers and chili ice cream.

Staying at Mayon Backpackers Hostel, I’m fine for a night but not for another night. BUT I recommend the hostel for all backpackers who can do it their selves everything alone!! :)

Room Tip: all roooms are good! except the one in the ground floor where the toilet/ comfort room is separated...

A hostel is a great oasis in quite dull city of Legaspi. It is situated in a quiet part of the city but still not far from the main road where all jeepneys go. It has a nice common room with the computer and some fruit, coffee and tea available all day through.
There is a nice terrace on the roof with
Personnel is very helpful and friendly.
The only "suprise" came when we wanted to go to the airport. Instead of the taxi we were offered a lift by the owner of the place for a reasonable price. But when we came to the airport, he asked for more for a pick-up at the hostel! That was unbelievable as he was to go to the airport anyway and we stayed at the place for 3 nights.

Room Tip: Prefer a room upstairs - the one downstairs is next to common room and has the bathroom outside the...

I stayed here last april 1 2013 and it's a good choice...
Location- 10 to 15 minutes away from airport and central van/bus terminal (via trycicle). Inside the village, so you should walk about 10 minutes to get to the hi way to catch a jeep in rizal street or just hail a pedicab or trycicle to take you to your destination. Near the plaza, gregory cathedral, astrodome and small talk cafe- the best resto in legaspi city
Price- 1000 php for Sampaguita room which fits 2 persons
Room- has double bed, closet, own toilet and bath, aircon (it's obviously new so everything is clean)
Free wifi
Unlimited drinking water, coffee and bread

Cons
Since it's a hoster, guests get together at night and talk and have some beer. They were a bit loud that night i was there but it's tolerable and i think thats how hostels should be...
The following morning, the kitchen , glasses and mugs smell liquor which i hate the most.

The hostel is located not in the main town but in the Albay neighborhood, which is actually great - nice area with view of the volcano, but also 5-10 min walk away from good food etc. The rooms are good and clean, and the common room has a homely feel to it with a dinner table and kitchen, and seating areas. All this hostel needs are more guests for a more social vibe. There were only about 6 people there at any time during my 5 day stay. But since they're very new I'd expect this to change over time. Top marks.

We spent two nights at Mayon Backpackers hostel and were pretty happy with our experience over there.
The hostel is brand new, very clean with free coffee and tea including breakfast. There is a kitchen we used for cooking our dinner.
The staff on site is very helpful with a lot of good advice.
The area the hostel is, is quite nice as well. Just behind the main road (5 min walking) it is very quiet (no rooster at 5am), no car noise.
The view from the terrace on the Mayon volcano is quite good.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who plan to spend a few days in Legazpi. They kept our luggage while we went and spent a night in Donsol to check for whale sharks.

Room Tip: The rooms around the living area are good (shared or double room) and will allow you to access WIFI...

A friend of mine told me that there's a newly opened hostel in Legaspi and the owner's a friend of him. So I asked my friends if the place was okay for them and they agreed. Me and my friends stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights last December 2012. It is near the airport and indeed the place was quiet and nice. They have this rooftop that's overlooking the Mayon Volcano. The room we stayed was good though there's a foreigner with us (We didn't thought of reserving the whole room for that day tho. Hehe). The price is affordable and in favor of our budget. They also have this service van that we availed for the no-hassle-commutes and the price is good as well. The staff's very accomodating and there's a complimentary breakfast.. (Free coffee! Yay!) Kuya Rex, the driver of the van, was so accomodating and friendly. We laughed and chat all throughout the trip so there's no dull moments for us, except maybe at the end of the day wherein all of us were dead tired. Haha! They can also contact the place for atv and trekking if you want to try some adventures and adrenaline rush.

So if you want to have a great time and a hassle free stay in Legaspi, check out Mayon Backpackers Hostel! No regrets, ever. :)
