The Oriental Legazpi

The rooms are very sophisticated. Love the white and the black scheme. The room interior is much more elegant than Thunderbird resort. Foods, nothing special. Steak are served minimum of an hour (so order an hour before). Drinks are so affordable!! Service is really nice and the views of the place are just so amazing. =)

Room Tip: Get the room facing the pool. =)

Good view of Mayon, superb rooms. So-so buffet breakfast. Location not so convenient unless you have private transportation to city. Taxis and private van hire available outside of hotel if you want to go to the city or neighboring provinces. Try not to deal with Diane in Front Desk, everything is not possible for her, not even a 30 min extension to late check-out.

Two nights. It looks very nice from outside, but inside, the hall... really COLD. Reception must improve. Room: well, looking the hidden Mayon volcano (always, 3 days, back to the clouds... not gentle). Shower: mistake of architect... the water stay, because it is not a good drainage...(Other mistake in the main entrance: several steps!... ). Breakfast... a bit spoiled: lot of people, and nobody arranging the food (spoons inside the salades, ..). We said it to the manager and waiter's... and we have two perfect breakfast. (Spanish sentence: Quien no llora, no mama!). Altogether: I recommend The Oriental.

Room Tip: Looking to the front... if you are interested with Mayon

We made a trip to Legazpi that was all too quick, just one night. We'd love to go back to see the things we missed and if we do, we'll stay at the Oriental again. The view of Mayon volcano is stunning from everywhere in the area, not least from the Oriental's patio. We sat there all afternoon eating, drinking San Miguel Pales and watching the ever evolving visage of Mayon until past sunset. Marvelously relaxing! The location of the Oriental, on a hillside overlooking town, is outside the bustle but close enough for quick trips back to it, as well as to and from the airport. The staff is extremely pleasant and attentive and the food was, if not particularly distinctive, delicious. We were told, and now believe, this is the best place to stay in Legazpi, a town well worth a visit if you're in the area! Unlike us this time, do make time for the all day excursions to Mayon itself and the swim with whale sharks!

Room Tip: We had a suite with view of Mayon, very happy with the choice.

We arrived in a stormy day in Legaspi and did not see Mayon Volcano in its full glory. Leaves littered the infinity pool. There were about three functional plastic recliners. The staff was eager to please although service at the restaurant was a bit slow. The food was good enough for the tag price. Facilities is modern but reception could be more inviting. Transport was a bit of a hassle but concierge can arrange taxi for you. Cabs charge a fixed price of Php150. The hotel houses a tour agency, Discovery, that offers all sorts of activities. We chose Firefly watching because their advertisement said we will get to see local wildlife while the sun sets. Although we got to see the fireflies (which was amazing!), they skipped the wildlife bit. For Php 2,900 per pax, I expected that our transportation was equipped with enough umbrellas, water en route to Donsol and guide that is conversant in English. Next time, I will look for a less expensive hotel and another agnecy in Bicol.

The Oriental is situated on a hill with a view of Legaspi City and on a clear day, the Mayon Volcano. The hotel has been competely refurbished fron the original Imperial Hotel and now boasts the only 5-star rating in the city. The new style is contemporary - achieved by the use of glass and steel architecture, interiors with open-air concept and stark white furnishings. The bedroom colors are less stark, softer and a bit more inviting. The lobby looks rather sterile but perhaps only to have the outdoor view as its focus. Perhaps the addition of mood music such as a live piano player would lend an intimate ambiance which is sorely lacking.

The staff are quite amiable and helpful offering us beverages at check in. The rooms are a good size, functional and sparse with the same white lacquered furnishings and ivory carpeting. WiFi is free in the room.

There is an infinity pool on the second floor deck facing the city and volcano view. The pool was clean. There is a gym in the lower level which we did not have a chance to try out.

Buffet breakfast is included in the room charge served in a large dining indoor/ outdoor area to the right of the lobby before exit. There is an egg station, oatmeal and cereal station and a few choices of continental breakfast items such as bacon, hashbriwns, as well as Filipino fare such as dried salted fish. The fruit tray had few selections of fruits, juices were artificially flavored. Coffee was nothing to write home about. I would give breakfast a score of 3/5.

Overall, our stay was quite pleasant and I would probably return to the Oriental. We were lucky to get a discounted special, the regular rates do not justify the rating it promises.

The best place to stay in Legazpi City Albay. Locals say it is the only 5star hotel in the area.
The hotel was refurbished as can be seen from the fixturing. Also a bit on the pricey side.
If you are looking for a place with an excellent view of the Mayon volcano then this is it. Be sure to check the weather though since we were not able to see the Mayon volcano during the three days we were there due to the rainy weather.
For dining, you would need to go to the city as the local restaurants are somewhere farther off. If you are on a budget, there is a somewhat dedicated tricycle stand waiting at the back side of the hotel. Only take the tricycles going down to the city. Not recommended to go back to the hotel from the city using a tricycle as the hotel is on a hill and tricycles do not offer the safest ride. You could take the taxi cabs back to the hotel but they are a bit scarce especially at night.
Free wifi available during the time we were there. Hotel is near the airport.
Though this hotel has seen better days, I would still book here if in case I decide to return to Legazpi.
