We stayed at hotel Venezia for what was supposed to be two nights, but ended up being three nights because our flight was cancelled and we could only get another flight the next day. The hotel is clean, comfortable and the rooms are well appointed. But something must be said for the restaurant that is run as part of the hotel. It definitely had a bearing on our stay at the hotel.
Unfortunately, the service in the restaurant was terribly slow. Legaspi is not a big town, so there are not that many places to eat dinner, if you're looking for something a little more tasteful than take out, so we ate dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. The food was ok for the first two evenings - Saturday evening and Sunday evening, despite the service being a little haphazard. Some dishes were really good while others were a bit disappointing. We ordered souffle which was totally overdone and burned. You could smell it as the souffle arrived at the table.
On Monday morning, we expected that breakfast would be ready by the time we had arranged. The staff had told us the previous evening, that we could have breakfast as requested come Monday morning at the time we requested. We ended up leaving for the airport at least half an hour later than we had planned and without having had the full breakfast we had expected. It turned into a very brief continental breakfast. That may be fine for some, but not for us after being told our order of full breakfast would be ready for us at the appointed time.
Waiters were not always paying attention to the table despite their friendly way of serving. By Monday evening, one of the chefs in the kitchen had changed - perhaps the weekend staff were different to the weekday staff? - and one of the dishes on the menu that had really been a highlight of our previous meals, was completely different and not properly cooked.
It was also surprising that a hotel of this kind, would not have games or a games room of some kind for guests to use in situations where outdoor activities have to be cancelled due to rain. We could not hike up mount Mayon as planned due to rain, and ended up having to find a store in the town to get cards to keep ourselves busy during the rain. The reception staff were helpful in finding out where we could get some games for ourselves though. The movie theatres at the shopping centres were certainly not showing the best movies even though we did watch one. If you head to Legaspi, be sure to have a plan B of some kind in case of wet weather.
I think this hotel is one of the better ones in Legaspi. It has an airport shuttle service which is definitely useful and the whole look of the hotel as you walk in is clean and smart. However, do not expect complete efficiency from the restaurant. The reception staff were very friendly and on the whole, the service was good in that area. The stay would have been great except for the inefficiency in the restaurant.
