“Luxurious weekend stay”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

We have been trying to book a room for quite some time now but had difficulty due to the schedule and what seems to be a fully booked hotel every time we checked. It has been highly recommended by friends who have stayed there. The wait was worth it as we had a great stay at the hotel. The food was really good (we also have previously had lunch there some time ago) and the service excellent. The wife loved the homey touch of the warm milk and cookies delivered at our room in the evening. We're definitely coming back soon (if we can get a room, that is).

Dear D0ctrine,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us at Tripadvisor.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Admittedly, weekends are always booked days ahead that is why some prefer a week day visit. The place is quite tranquil and beautifully serene on weekdays which makes it ideal for those seeking a respite from the daily grind.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

Yours truly,

Jonahs

We had a chance to try out this B&B through a local deal wherein we paid for the night stay 30% off the normal price.

Stayed there on a Sunday so the place was much more quiet. The place wasn't fully occupied and there were only a handful of guests so it was private and quiet.

Upon checking in, we went straight to the room and a few minutes after, someone came to give us our welcome drinks.

We stayed at the Ceylon room which is located outside. We really liked it since it was a stone's away from the jacuzzi and we were secluded from the main house. Bed was soft, there was a sofa bed which can sleep another person. I was expecting a bigger toilet since it was pretty small but the shower room did suffice. There was a plasma TV, ref and mini bar, fruits and closet. There was also a table and chairs outside the room wherein you could hangout and smoke.

We had wine and cheese buffet from 5pm-6pm. There was plenty of wine and there was about 8 cheese varieties, white and red wine and pickles. We had dinner at Verbena after and they offered 20% discount for people who are currently staying in the hotel. Dinner was pricey but delicious.

We also tried the jacuzzi after dinner and it was just the right temperature. Since the place wasn't fully occupied, we had the whole downstairs area to our own so it felt very private.

Breakfast was also part of the deal and you get to choose from Verbena's breakfast menu which was full of delicious treats. My boyfriend asked for Eggs Benedict which wasn't on the menu but the chef complied to make it anyway! Whereelse could you find a place that would serve something not in the menu but still make it wonderfully?

This time, however, there is a construction going on beside the property and it's a bit noisy in the morning. If you turn on the TV, noise would get drowned out. It will just hinder your sleep if you are a sensitive sleeper like me.

Overall, it was a great stay. I'd say it was a value from the deal we got. The personal touch from the service was something that would really make me come back, If I were to pay the normal price, however, I'd have to think it was a bit expensive. But I guess, the privacy you get would compensate the value.

Dear Kahelluna,

Thank you for your wonderful post. We appreciate the time it took for you to write about your experience at Discovery Country Suites. Please be assured that the issue about the construction noise from the property next door is already being addressed. The contractors are now being compelled to work only within a specific time period every day. Before and after this time period, they are not allowed to create noise in consideration of the peace and quiet of the immediate environment.

He hope to welcome you back in Discovery Country Suites soon!

Sincerely,

Jonahs.

Last stayed here 3 years back to celebrate the birthday of my spouse. It was a memorable one and this time we went back with my daughter , for we want her to experience the little extras that this boutique hotel offer. Got to stay at Oxford ( last time out we had Nantucket ), and i find it really spacious with a homey ambiance to it. I also liked the very huge toilet/bathroom , offering a nice bath tub . One problem though , i cannot open the window blinds to appreciate the view, since there was an ongoing Starbucks construction beside it , even if the suite was situated at the highest vantage point, it can get uncomfortable for one taking a bath or shower. The fireplace in the suite was a nice touch, and you can just ask someone to set it up.. The meaningful extras that Discovery offers include 1) welcome drinks 2) the wine and cheese , cocktail style during late afternoon to early evening 3) free cookies in the lobby/front desk and my daughters favorite , 4) the milk and cookies delivered to our suite at night and 5) things that they do once they know that there is a special celebration going on , such as birthdays and anniversary . I like my breakfast experience at the multi awarded cafe Verbena, in which you also have the option to have it served in the luxury of your own suite . Servings are ala carte, and there is a mini buffet of breads/pastries , juices and fruits . I also had dinner at their coffeeshop and will be posting my separate review soon . I would like to offer my constructive observation regarding my stay . which are 1) how come the internet is too slow, and really erratic ? , in fact it is only good for opening e-mails at the most 2) how come the lights are out at the lobby and coffeeshop by 12mn ? , what i mean is that it is really turned OFF, making one think that for the pricey accomodations to be paid that is what we get. But for all its entirety , it is a good place for a remarkable stay , i won't hesitate coming back whether with as a family break or as a romantic escape. Special thanks to Mark and the security group on duty that evening , and also to Morris and the pretty lady he's on duty with . The morning cafe staff on duty the following day were good but I didn't have enough time to recognize them more. With plans to renovate the place , i hope they consider changing the location of the men's restroom , since it can be quite uncomfortable for those visiting and dining at their renowned restaurant .

Room Tip: splurge on nantucket and oxford suites for they provide partial Taal volcano views

Decided to bring a group of 26 foreign and local officemates to Discovery Country Suites last minute. Called them at 8am to reconfirm my earlier reservation and the F&B staff offered to help me with the menu. He knows the dishes well and his recommendations were superb. I have the tendency to order too much food for the fear of starving my guests and I initially thought the menu we had was not enough. At the end of the day, it was just right.

My foreign guests were very pleased with the quality and amount of food served to them. Local guests also appreciated the difference between the food we had days before to what they had at lunch.

The staff were very accommodating and warm. I feel there was a shortage of staff but I don't really think the place gets filled up very often so there might not be a need to have more staff than what was already there.

Quick and helpful service for parents with a sick and vomiting child. If you guys are reading this, thank you so much for the quick response to all our needs.

Upon booking online, got an email that we'll get upgraded. Thank you for that also.

It's a boutique hotel with just 8 rooms, Nara room badly needs an overhaul already. Dirty tatami mats and worn out old interiors. The bed and pillows were soft. But they had to take the topper and some pillows which got vomited on. They didn't have replacements anymore so it was a bad night sleep on a hard bed. Very bright in the morning even with the black out curtains bec. it didn't fully cover the doors. With safe, ref, complete toiletries and soft, thick towels. Movies, books, magazines and games can be borrowed at the lobby. Even with the construction of Starbucks next door, couldn't hear noise with the doors closed.

Appreciated the lovely wine and cheese afternoon snack. Food at Verbena was delectable- breakfast and dinner.

Think it's very expensive for the quality of the room.

We stayed overnight at the property as we attended a wedding in Tagaytay. I reserved over the phone in Manila and the service provided by the reservations agent, Ms. Diona Reyes was very helpful, efficient and prompt. She patiently informed me with great detail the rooms available as well as it prices and its inclusions.

We arrived at the hotel for check-in at about 9:30 pm. Check-in was a breeze. We got the room we reserved. They were well informed of our late check-in and we were escorted to our room by the friendly front desk personnel. Our bags were carried by the very kind security guard on duty and even refused the tip I offered him.

We had milk and cookies in the room which they give every guest at bedtime. They also catered to our late night request such as hot water, ice, salt, pepper and even vinegar and chopped chili. We had to settle for chips and such though as their room service was only until 10 PM.

The beds and pillows were comfortable enough. The sheets looked worn but it was clean and comfortable as well. The towels were also soft. The room was big with a balcony with a view. It was a nice enough room but some things to consider:

1) the bathroom was small, fixtures old and moldy. The floor had water marks and a small portion underneath where you hang your towels was waterlogged. The basket where the toiletries were placed needed a good cleaning. I actually wish I had taken photos.

2) The sliding doors to the balcony had no lock as it was broken. The screen doors on the other hand would creak and screech as it was not aligned to its base. The furniture in the balcony too needs to be refurbished and its throw pillows and cushions cleaned.

3) The room we stayed in was across reception and the stairs leading to the other rooms. At night it is very quiet but during the early morning you can really hear all the voices of the people passing by. So if you'd like to stay in bed late it might be a little problem with the noises.

4) The room was relatively clean. The problem was the bathroom with all the mold and rusty, dirty fixtures. My rating of average is debatable as I myself am quite confused as to what rating to give them on this. It's also because I found a single piece of Honey Stars cereal on the floor near the sliding doors. They missed it while sweeping??

It would have been a fantastic room if they had just maintained the room and furniture better. Getting rid of the mold, updating and refurbishing the furniture, fixtures and the rest would help as well.

We stayed overnight at DCS with a very high expectation since they are highly priced and got very good reviews from friends before. Their Boracay property is so nice that we had the same expectation with the one in Tagaytay. But the excitement was dampened when we saw that the room was a bit dated, furnitures in the room had stains, and the window blinds were broken. What's worse, the whirlpool was dirty and the towels in the guest rooms were old and tattered. It was quite disheartening to think that we were looking forward to a very pleasant stay.

On the positive side, we enjoyed their wine and cheese tasting and we we're surprised with the warm vanilla milk and delicious cookies in our room when we got back from dinner outside the hotel. Breakfast the next day was also good at their Verbena restaurant. Staff were very attentive and courteous.
