On the positive side, the room was tastefully interiored and spacious. Bed were comfortable and pillow and sheets were clean. Staff seemed new but attended quickly to our requests. Breakfast was brought to our room before we could go down the cafe. Location of hotel is at the midpoint of the Tagaytay strip, so it was very near restaurants and near to sightseeing spots.

On the negative side, the room had a strange and strong annoying smell during the first few hours of our stay. Staff immediately sprayed air freshener. However, the smell stayed. After a couple of time the room was sprayed with freshener, we realized it was the air freshener that was causing the smell. The room we got did not have windows for ventilation. Staff suggested that we move temporarily to another room while they leave the door open to aerate the room. We didnt like to move our luggage so we stayed in while leaving the door open and the a/c on. True enough, the odor went away after 30 minutes or so. Staff later told us the room had not been occupied for several days now. So the smell kinda got bottled in the whole time. I think that the hotel should clean and freshen the rooms regularly even when these are not used. They should also change their air freshener.

Another thing is that the hotel front desk and entrance (from hotel parking area) is at the basement of the building. Our room was 2 floors up so we had go climb the stairs since there was no elevators. However, they did have an inconspicuous hotel entrance at street level facing the front of the Magallanes Square complex which was more convenient though parking there was limited.

Another comment is that their online description for our Superior room was that it can accomodate 3-4 persons and that it had a queen bed and a double bed. What was actually in the room were the queen bed and a single bed. So their online description is inaccurate.

There were a couple of restaurants and small shops in the complex but we didn't get to try any so I can't comment on these.

All in all, our stay was just ok.

Reasonably priced with friendly, eager staff to serve – that’s my first impression of Magallanes Square Hotel (MSH) upon our arrival last Dec 30,2010 past 7:00PM. However, as we entered our room, I was disappointed with the two single beds I saw since the reservation choices were for “two twin beds” or a “double bed.” Since our son would be staying with us in the room, my husband and I opted for the two twin beds and requested for an extra bed. According to the explanation of the front desk, the two twin beds actually meant twin single beds. Next, there were only two pillows for the two beds so I asked for additional pillows. There was one extra pillow on top of the closet which was free of charge. Each extra pillow would cost P50.00 (USD1.00+). This really surprised me since all hotel rooms I have checked in usually have two pillows per bed. I had a hard time getting over the P50.00 charge for extra pillow, which I didn’t ask for anymore.

On other positive notes - the place is quite accessible to Picnic Grove, People’s Park, Robinson’s Supermarket, etc. There are several restaurants across the hotel so no worries for going home after a late night meal. In fact, it is relaxing to walk around at night with the cool breeze blowing on your face.

The Starbucks Tagaytay featured in the 2011 SB Planner is actually across MSH. The view from SB during daytime is just so picturesque you’ll want to just sit, sip coffee the whole day and marvel at Mother Nature’s wonderful creations.

It was a restful, relaxing, enjoyable stay at MSH in all. I left a few comments for the hotel to improve on and hopefully, the Management will act on them.
