The Chitral fort is situated on the banks of the Chitral River. The fort was built by Raja Nadir Shah in the 14th Century. It was restored in 1774 during the reign of Shah Afzal II and again in 1911 by H.H. Shuja-ul-Mulk . The Fort was used as a residence for Mehtar Family and for military purposes as well.
After the merger of Chitral state in 1969 with Pakistan it was declared personal property of the last ruler of chitral. . It is now occupied by the current ceremonial Mehtar, Fateh-ul-Mulk Ali Nasir who has renovated the old Darbar Hall and state rooms following damage sustained during the earthquake of 2015.
The travelers & Tourists are not allowed to visit this fort but on special request a visit can be arranged.I have been to this fort once.
