“A nice garden hotel but pricey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

The rooms were very comfortable. As is common in Myanmar, the shower leaked. Nice gardens. We had a garden patio but it was so closed in with vegetation that it was really too dark to sit in! Breakfast buffet was extensive and pretty good. We did not eat dinner because it was very pricey and there are other great restaurants within walking distance which are half or less the price. Location is excellent - right across the road from Ananda Paya, and we were there during Ananda festival which was fascinating - people coming from all over to celebrate. Horse carts are usually hanging out right outside hotel gate. Location is probably the best thing here

Room Tip: Rooms close to pool may be more convenient and still are quiet.

Somehow the dust and buzz of Bagan seems to disappear in this exceptional property. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful (if they can understand you-a common problem in Myanmar) the rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated. The grounds are well kept, and there is a feeling of serenity which we really liked. The pool is large and well located. The restaurant is pleasant, but the food uninspiring. The only negative I would point out is that the individual houses (room) are spread out over a large property and you my get bored walking to the reception area, it can be very long. All in all the best place I have stayed in Bagan.

Room Tip: If you have trouble walking, ask for a room closer to the main area of the hotel, the distances are...

Lovely hotel, spread out over manicured grounds. The rooms are large and well appointed, the staff is charming, and the service excellent. The breakfast is in an open air dinning room with an excellent buffet. We had dinner there one evening and it was very pleasant. If I were going back to Bagan and I would love to, this absolutely where I would stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the restaurant as the grounds are very large.

Loved the hotel. Beautiful room with all amenities, spotlessly clean, big comfortable bed; set in lovely gardens. Courteous, friendly, helpful staff. Swimming pool; pretty restaurant. Delicious breakfast. In a great location in Old Bagan. Recommend taking a trip with a horse and trap, which are located just outside the hotel gates. No. 17, a lovely young guy, who has a horse called Mitchell, was fantastic. He took me to see a school, and an artists' village, which was not accessible by car. Wonderful experience.

The hotel is very well located to visit Old Bagan. Go for at least a deluxe room, they are more spacious and have a nice back terrace. If you like the sun, ask for a room in block 5 or 6 or 7, they have a better orientation for a little sun in the afternoon. Room was clean, no problems with wifi. If you stay there during religious festivities you will hear the noise of the praying monks all night. If so, ask for earplugs ! Restaurant was a bit overpriced considering the quality of food. There are very good local restaurants nearby. Breakfast buffet ok, nice setting for dinner around swimming pool. When we left, we forgot a wallet with big amount of money in the safe. We didn't realize until we got a phone call from Myanmar Shalom, the organization we contacted to organize our private tour through Birma. The staff had found the wallet, gave it to the manager of the hotel who contacted the local guide who worked for Myanmar Shalom. We got our wallet back, 5 days later!

Room Tip: Pay for a deluxe room because they are more spacious and have a back terrace. If you want sun in the...

This is a very pretty hotel. The Wi-if was free, but hit or miss. I couldn't get a signal in my room, and although I could get a signal in the open air lobby, I could still never send or receive anything. They did have a few desk top computers. I didn't use them but my roommate did and she was able to use email. The only place I was able to send/receive was at the Moe Moe lacquer shop in town. The pool is pretty to sit around, but the water is cloudy and would not have gotten in. The villas were large and clean. The bathrooms were nice. The food was good. The turn down service was nice - they put flowers on your bed. The carved elephant at the front makes for great pictures. There was a festival going on down the street and we could hear the noise from it all night, but that is of no fault of the hotel's.

We stayed here recently. The hotel is in need of TLC from lackluster greeting to cleanliness of rooms. Toilet did not work upon check in. Had to ask for more towels.
Website states credit cards accepted - not so. Must pay in USD, they hold reservation w/ cc only.
We arrived at the same time as thousands of others for full moon festival, which takes place immediately outside of hotel property. I think we could have been told at time of reservation, so we could have made a choice about staying up all night or staying someplace quieter.
That said, most of staff are great and food especially breakfast buffet are wonderful.
