“A wonderful hotel”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

This was probably our most favourite hotel during our tour of Myanmar with Jules Verne. Our rooms were large and well equipped with extremely comfortable beds and all mod cons. The large bathroom at the back contained bathrobes, good quality toiletries, hairdryer and bathrobe. Torch, umbrella, safe and coffee and tea facilities were also available.. The personalised letter for us was a nice touch and we were impressed with the friendliness of the staff. They were very helpful when I flooded the bathroom due to there being a design fault in the shower room. As the hotel had only opened recently there were one or two little glitches - the shower being one and the difficulty in getting the blinds up and down being another. The pool area was wonderful - clean and sparkling and the food was excellent. It was very pleasant to be able to sit out on our decking area during any free time and watch the garden materialising before our eyes! This was a very special hotel and I wish it well.

The Bagan Lodge only recently opened - I am delighted to have had the pleasure of staying at this five star resort. The rooms are a delight with typical Burmese adornments; the bathroom is modern with a separate toilet and a shower made of stone tiles. The spa is sparkling, clean and I enjoyed a terrific foot massage; the pool is a dream especially in early evening after a day of visiting temples and dusty sites.
The staff are young, eager to learn and a delight. I would most certainly recommend this property and will return 'next time' I visit Bagan

Room Tip: rooms are all similar but I enjoyed the peace of being a little removed from the main buildings and...

Bagan is teaming with tourists so finding a 4 star property was next to impossible for our trip. Finally our operator was able to secure our rooms here. With only half the rooms built and only open for 2 1/2 months they are breaking in the local staff to provide the service this gem demands. And there are certainly bumps in the road. The property is gorgeous, the rooms are huge and comfortably appointed with a galley jack and jill bathroom that runs the length along the back of the room. Beds are very comfortable. International buffet breakfast was top notch. Infinity pool was perfect after a hot day of sightseeing. My rating could be so much higher but for the "new property pitfalls". Wake up calls that come when not asked for; shower handle not properly installed and falls off; the answer to everything is "yes" without consistent follow through; room had leftover cookies from previous guest and a note to those guests when we checked in; turn down service happens after 8:30pm so for us we never got it after first night. The list goes on. So if you are a persnickety traveler who demands perfection you may want to wait while they iron out the kinks. Expats from this company's other properties have been brought in to open this hotel and they are working day and night to teach the staff what needs to be done. They are the only hotel in Bagan with a computerized system for all aspects of service and teaching staff that have never worked a computer is a huge task. Also this property takes Visa and Mastercard so you can keep your cash if you want. Also a rarity in Myanmar. This property will get its act together and when they do it will be amazing. Would I stay here again... sure... they get a "A" for effort and a B-/C+ for execution.

Dear RickandGary,

Thank you for your candid review about your recent stay at Bagan Lodge. We really appreciate the feedback. Sorry to note that you experienced some glitches and kinks during your stay but it’s additionally great to know that a lot of things were right and we are moving in the right direction. We are aiming to set a new standard for Bagan and of course in a location like this one, perfect service can’t happen overnight but we feel we are making small victories every day so this is what we focus on and won't give up!

A new computer system doesn’t come without glitches, some system based and others human error, we are again sorry you were woken without request. I can assure you for the guest letter and cookies – these weren’t left from a previous guest, a change of room assignment was made without information to housekeeping, so unfortunately your letter was waiting for you in another room!

Thanks again for your comments, we are grateful to know you are happy to return and we do hope to have the chance to welcome you back again so you can re-rate us after experiencing the positive changes.

With best regards,

The Bagan Lodge Team!

After a long train ride from Yangon to Mandalay and subsequent boat trip down the Irrawaddy river, it was a relief to find the Bagan Lodge. This brand new hotel in New Bagan is set up almost like an African lodge. Each building contains two spacious rooms under what looks like a canopy (but is just there for decoration). The bathroom is by far the best in Myanmar with a powerful rainshower, double sinks, and nice deep tub perfect for washing away the dust of Bagan after a day out exploring.
But by far the best feature of this hotel (on top of the amazing night sleep you'll get in the impossibly comfy beds (or maybe just a stark contrast to upper class on Myanmar trains?), is the staff. I happened to lose my passport while traveling to the Bagan Lodge. The staff knew exactly what to do, going to the local immigration office on my behalf to get a signed letter in Burmese. They brought me to the police station to declare it as lost. They used my credit card authorization paperwork that I had emailed months earlier to print off copies of my passport and visa. Their diligent work allowed me to enjoy the next 9 days of my trip in Burma without concern. Special thanks to Jon, the general manager!

Room Tip: The Bagan Lodge is currently 80% complete. You won't hear any construction noise during the day...

On our recent trip to Myanmar, my husband and I decided on a last minute visit to Bagan. We were assisted by Tour Mandalay to locate Bagan Lodge. This was a wonderful experience, especially as we were not expecting to secure much in the peak tourist season. The rooms are roomy sanctuaries. We were reluctant to leave. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Laundry service was excellent. Quality of fittings is top class. Spa treatments very good and reasonably priced. Great breakfast. Can't fault it.

A nice new place to stay in Bagan.
The room are very nice, the concept very nice and different of what I saw in Myanmar.
The garden need a bit time but I guess in few month it will grow and will be THE place to stay in Bagan. Nice pool to relax after a long day around the temple.
Good luck to all Bagan lodge team and thank you for your nice welcome

Room Tip: A new different style hotel to stay
