“Nice place, slightly pricey and plagued by tour groups, extortionate wi-fi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2012

This is a nice place in a great location with a great pool and superb view of the temples. We had a great time but there are a few things that could annoy people if they are less relaxed than us.
The hotel charges, or tries to charge, 10 dollars per day for wifi! There is a small computer room but its opening hours are limited, we refused to pay for wifi, and despite them saying that everyone in Bagan charges for wifi, I can categorically say they don’t as we moved to the Floral Breeze which had no charge.
The walls in the cabins are paper thin so you can hear everything going on next door unless you have ear plugs. The hotel is very much on the tour group itinerary and as it is not that big this can cause a few issues with service. There was a large bus tour of Italians when we arrived, at breakfast, dinner time this overwhelmed the place and service for everyone else went out of the window. The group had one large table set up for about 30 and there were limited or no other tables / chairs for other guests in the restaurant, plus the production of food ground to a halt.
They do bike rental, at slightly over the going rate.
Its a lovely setting so if your easy going don't be put off.

Room Tip: Go for the cabins they back on to the pool and have a fantastic view from the balconey.

This was supposed to be our luxury three days - we had booked a junior suite with a view. And i have to say it was indeed a lovely room, with a balcony, good airco and a nice bathroom (with, as usual in Birma, somewhat sketchy plumbing). Add the nice swimming pool (not a luxury after visiting the ruins!) and you really get a 'resort' feeling.
We also really loved the breakfast buffet - which offers a wide variety of birmese and western dishes.
Some downsides though: it's quite a remote location. i suppose that's the price you pay for the great views, but you have to arrange for some transport if you want to eat out at night (you can rent bikes there). also, they have internet but it's dead slow - take this into account if you want to look up important stuff. and third - but this is only because in general i found the birmese the most amiable people i have ever encountered, the staff (more particular at the breakfast area and reception desk) were quite uninterested and even arrogant. (the waiters were very friendly though).

Hmm.. Not very impressed with Lonely Planet's top choice. We had a standard room, which was next to what appeared to be the hotel's sewage treatment plant! Strong smell of sewage and loud noise from early in the morning. The hotel seemed tired, wooden planking desperately needs replacing, our room looked as though no one had cleaned it for months. I was particularly unimpressed with the staff at breakfast who seemed to loiter around chatting rather than actually serve. The brilliant service and friendly welcome everywhere else in Myanmar was not evident here. The hotel is far away from any of the main sights, so add on the cost of taxi rides ($8 each way) to the room prices.

We (couple traveling for several months in our thirties) feel this is the best option in New Bagan. The grounds are peaceful with expansive views of temples and pagodas. The junior suites have the best views and balconies. They are spacious rooms with twin beds, tv, ac, and nice big bathrooms. The pool area is a disappointment considering how lovely it's view is. The staff are inattentive and the water is dirty. The restaurant was also disappointing as the food is quite poor. However, there is great food within walking distance. No need for wifi in this setting, but here it is very expensive and slow. Overall, happy with the place and we would choose it again for the location, nice rooms, and views.

We enjoyed our stay here, and see this location as a quiet and convenient spot. Our only complaint was the food an diinig room. If the room was updated, and the quality of the food improved upon, it would be perfect. The pool was a wonderful respite from the afternoon heat and touring. New poolside furniture and towels would make a difference, too. As this area continues to increase in tourism, a few changes could this gem would be an amazing place to stay while in Bagan.

How amazing is it to stay in the midst of all the ancient temples! From your room you can walk to several of them. The hotel is also in close proximity to many restaurants and local shops. Easily accessible by foot, bike or pony ride. Very warm and attentive staff. We get back to our room with flower petals on our bed every night. Such a nice touch! There's even internet access which we didn't expect to have since it is a small fairly remote town. Definitely a good place to stay in Bagan.
