“Cheap and not very cheerful”
Reviewed November 9, 2012 via mobile

If you need reasonably priced accommodation then this might fit the bill but if you can afford better then I would pay the extra. We had a Junior suite which overlooked a very scummy pond full of litter, but in the far distance there were excellent temple views. The outside design of the rooms was drab to say the least - unimaginative rectangular pale green buildings looking like a cheap motel in the States. Inside the room was uninteresting too - plumbing very iffy ludicrous shower head over the bath which soaked everything nearby. If one is not keen on an Asian breakfast then the only choice was a little fruit and underdone toast and jam . Only orange squash instead of fresh juice. The swimming pool was not very big and there were very few loungers the only alternative was to sit on filthy dining chairs or a very unkempt area of grass/scrubland. The plus sides- cheap laundry service, pleasant staff and the room was clean

Back for the third time & the usual welcome from the charming staff. Food very good but the rooms are looking increasingly jaded one of which housing a small rodent probably a cheroot loving squirrel /rat.
This lovely place must keep up to speed or all maybe lost

We just spent 3 nights there and loved every minute of it. The $60/night for our temple view room, which was very big, with a very big bathroom, with a big balcony looking out at the temples were very good value. The location is fantastic. A bit removed from the action (instead you got temples, egrets, and grazing goats) but close enough to walk to a number of restaurants. The food in the restaurant was fantastic. The breakfast buffet included three or four Burmese options, which varied every day, in addition to the Western breakfast. Dinner (again we opted for Burmese) was also excellent. The meals we had there were far superior to what we had elsewhere in Bagan. Staff was efficient, helpful, friendly.

Once upon a time this was probably a nice hotel. As, when it was new. But no longer. It's unmaintained, not cleaned except in a very superficial way, service was poor, and employees lounging around in clumps when so much needs to be done. I have to assume that management, if there is any, simply doesn't care. Machinery, possibly a water filtration unit, is large and noisy right in front of the rear rooms and seems to run 24 hours.

I'll leave it at that as the particulars are endless and unnecessary. And while the location is beautiful, local transportation is hit and miss and other restaurants far away so we finally gave up and ate at the hotel then relocated at the earliest opportunity. Try to find somewhere else.

Kumudara Hotel

I honestly don't know where to start with this place. The view is immense & I could look at it all day. The owner & staff are very friendly and will do anything to help you ( including sourcing if a screwdriver for a broken laptop!!!) the food was the best we had in Bagan. The room was immaculate & the pool was a welcome relief from the hot hot bagan sun. At USD60 it's a bit more than we'd normally pay but we allowed ourself a few splurge days and it was well well worth it.

This hotel is fantastic. The rooms were $30 per night and great value. The room itself was enormous with a good sized bathroom.
My room overlooked the pool and the fields beyond with stupas galore. Perfect view! The grounds are massive as well and give a really quiet and calm feeling to the whole place.
The staff are so friendly. They helped with absolutely everything, from bicycles to food and money changing to plane tickets.
The breakfast was delicious, as was the food at night. In other places I would go out to find food, but it was so good I didn't want to eat anywhere else!
The location is great. New Bagan is definitely the way to go. It's quiet and friendly and you can reach all of the main temples by bicycle. The ones you can't get to within an easy hour ride probably aren't worth getting to. It's worth it to ride towards the airport and explore the backroads to some of the temples in the middle of the plain.
This hotel is right on the edge of New Bagan, next to the road to the airport and the road leading to Old Bagan. Perfect!
The temples around the hotel are also worth a look - an easy 20 minute stroll around the hotel will take you to some really great sights.
This was the best hotel I stayed at in Myanmar. Will definitely stay again when I come back!

I stayed here for 3 nights at superior room for 27$ per night. Booked by travel agency. I love my stay especially for the friendlist staff ever. I stayed in several hotels around Myanmar but did not meet so nice guys. My room was so big for 1 person, i jumped from one bed to another! To get to the swimming pool i just climbed over the verandas fence. So, i liked it.

For the prices - Bagan whole day city tour - 35 000K for the car. Popa Mt - 55 000K ( dont worth it ) Hourse cart - 22000K whole day city tour. Sunset ride - 6000K. Airport transfer 3500K for share ride from airport. Rent a bike - 3000K - hotels bikes are very old, choose another one from rentals near the hotels gate. All prices are negotiatable.

As for me it was great experience to rent a bike for 1 day and cycle around. From 7 am till 1 pm you can see many pagodas. Pay 500K to local guys for any tample excursion they will tell you more than guide and show nice places to take pictures.

Have a great time in Bagan - the best place in Myanmar!
