“What an amazing place for a small splurge!”

Kumudara Hotel

I honestly don't know where to start with this place. The view is immense & I could look at it all day. The owner & staff are very friendly and will do anything to help you ( including sourcing if a screwdriver for a broken laptop!!!) the food was the best we had in Bagan. The room was immaculate & the pool was a welcome relief from the hot hot bagan sun. At USD60 it's a bit more than we'd normally pay but we allowed ourself a few splurge days and it was well well worth it.

This hotel is fantastic. The rooms were $30 per night and great value. The room itself was enormous with a good sized bathroom.
My room overlooked the pool and the fields beyond with stupas galore. Perfect view! The grounds are massive as well and give a really quiet and calm feeling to the whole place.
The staff are so friendly. They helped with absolutely everything, from bicycles to food and money changing to plane tickets.
The breakfast was delicious, as was the food at night. In other places I would go out to find food, but it was so good I didn't want to eat anywhere else!
The location is great. New Bagan is definitely the way to go. It's quiet and friendly and you can reach all of the main temples by bicycle. The ones you can't get to within an easy hour ride probably aren't worth getting to. It's worth it to ride towards the airport and explore the backroads to some of the temples in the middle of the plain.
This hotel is right on the edge of New Bagan, next to the road to the airport and the road leading to Old Bagan. Perfect!
The temples around the hotel are also worth a look - an easy 20 minute stroll around the hotel will take you to some really great sights.
This was the best hotel I stayed at in Myanmar. Will definitely stay again when I come back!

I stayed here for 3 nights at superior room for 27$ per night. Booked by travel agency. I love my stay especially for the friendlist staff ever. I stayed in several hotels around Myanmar but did not meet so nice guys. My room was so big for 1 person, i jumped from one bed to another! To get to the swimming pool i just climbed over the verandas fence. So, i liked it.

For the prices - Bagan whole day city tour - 35 000K for the car. Popa Mt - 55 000K ( dont worth it ) Hourse cart - 22000K whole day city tour. Sunset ride - 6000K. Airport transfer 3500K for share ride from airport. Rent a bike - 3000K - hotels bikes are very old, choose another one from rentals near the hotels gate. All prices are negotiatable.

As for me it was great experience to rent a bike for 1 day and cycle around. From 7 am till 1 pm you can see many pagodas. Pay 500K to local guys for any tample excursion they will tell you more than guide and show nice places to take pictures.

Have a great time in Bagan - the best place in Myanmar!

When I arrived at Kumudara from the airport I was worried that I was too far away from everything. The hotel is on the edge of town but it is just a 5-10 minute walk to the main road with restaurants and shops. The room was probably the best value that I had in all of Myanmar. $27 for a spacious superior room in the off season. Quiet, clean and with a view of the temples, it was just what I needed after the craziness of Yangon.

There are horse carts and taxis waiting right outside each morning to book for temple viewing. The staff is very helpful and each day there is 1/2 hour of free internet and a litre of bottled water. They have bike rentals. There is also a restaurant at the hotel with reasonably priced dishes if you don't feel like walking to the main road for dinner.

Very nice and clean hotel with a spacious garden. Cabana type rooms are located well apart. Located very close to the ruins. You can stroll around and visit lot of temples. The staff is extremely friendly. From the balcony you can view lot of pagodas. Hotel is named after the Kumudu flowers in the front lake.

Our tour company set us up at this hotel, I was travelling Myanmar with my aunt and she preferred a little more home comforts than I was used to travelling with, but this place was a very relaxing stay. Comfortable and clean rooms, a swimming pool and good restaurant. They rent bikes here and on my down time I would take one of these bikes for a ride out to see the many pagodas and stupas in the immediate vicinity. Very easy travelling about here and you can do some exploring on your own easy enough. The staff were very friendly though their internet was down the entire time we were there. Then again, if you are travelling Myanmar and hope to stay connected to the world via the internet, you may want to put your trip off for a few years yet. Some major government run hotels may have slow access (I mean slow, this makes the old dial-up look like space age technology) but it is often not working as well. WiFi is as good as non existent but if you spend enough time searching someone can point you to the one other hotel that has access to get an email out. Take this place as a world of serenity nearly cut off from the outside world, and bask in the natural beauty and wonders of the many temples in this region.

Stayed at the Kumudara as the guide book recommended it as a nice, reasonable splurge for budget travelers, but prices had almost doubled since the book was published 1-2 years ago. It was still not too bad of a price, the hotel grounds and room were beautiful, and the welcome drink was a nice touch. However, there definitely were some down sides, the internet was very limited, even in their internet room, there wasn't any hot water, and the room is large, but that means it takes a long time for the A/C to cool it down, would have preferred a smaller, colder room. The room did have nice views and the breakfast was great.
