We arrived on the sunbaked plan at mid-day, and as we drove to out hotel, from the scrub landscape we could see temples, Huge and minute - everywhere, in all directions, as far as the horizon reached. Over the next three days, we vistited the famous and not-so-famous temples and pagodas. We went at sunset. We visited a orphanage where young boys learn to be monks, and we were treated to a tour of an ancient temple by a women nearly 100. The spirituality of this place defies description. It is unspoiled and real. Those who have the opportunity to visit Began, will return from that visit a changed person.

Spent two nights in old bagan. Used bicycle to get around. Really enjoyed the temple hopping by bicycle. Great photos. A must see

The sunrise and the sunset at Bagan is amazing - to gaze out over the literally thousands of temples with the sun rising or dropping through the haze of wood fire smoke is an event of a lifetime.

The Bagan temples are really amazing and gave us a little insight of what the Bagan area must have been like 1000 years ago. What an incredible feat it was for the people to build these temples without the use of modern tools. This place is really worth a look.

We've been to Angkor a few times and have always been intrigued by the temples at Bagan.

An article I read once said that Angkor is like a large three course meal, whereas Bagan is a like tapas. The temples aren't as large, but there are about 2,000 of them to see, which makes Bagan an amazing destination for anyone with a little Indiana Jones in them.

The time to see the temples is in the early morning, where the temperature is tolerable and the light is amazing for photos. Do yourself a favor and climb up on one of the larger temples and just scan the horizon. You'll see hundreds of temple silhouettes for miles.

It's simply breathtaking.

PS - If you go, remember to bring water. We took bicycles (not a great idea) and figured there would be lots of vendors about. There are vendors near the large temples, but there is no one around the smaller temples, and it's a long walk/ride to get back to civilization.
