Friendly service, beautiful rooms, a bit far from temples

We paid $35/night for a room with 2 beds, AC, clean and private shower (amazing water pressure!!) and good toilet. At first we thought the price was high but the hotel is actually a lot nicer than other places we’ve stayed at! It is much fancier. The rooms are more like cottages, and in front of our room there is a little pond and a bridge. Very quaint! There are 26 rooms in total. Breakfast is included and is similar to other places we’ve stayed at. The owner is very nice and was extremely helpful in helping us book bus tickets, rent bikes, etc. There is no wifi and internet cafes nearby are exceedingly slow. Do not bother. Use the wifi at the Green Elephant restaurant instead (you may have to eat there for get a drink there to get their password!)
DO: Rent a bike to tour Bagan (3,000 Kyats per person per day). Make sure the basket on the bike is securely fastened! You can also rent a horse carriage or a taxi, but it is easier to explore on bikes. Go to Mt. Popa (10,000 Kyats per person by taxi), which is about an hour south of Bagan. Climb up 777 steps to see the temple at the top of the mountain!
EAT: Left of our hotel is a street stall – food there was delicious (typical Burmese food) and we paid 3,500 Kyats for 2 people. We were so full we could not move! If you keep walking left, you could also go to the fancy Green Elephant restaurant. They have fast wifi, but the food was expensive and does not taste good. We only went there for the atmosphere, the drinks, and the free and fast wifi.
TIP: Bring a headlight (i.e. a flashlight that can be worn on your head) as it gets dark at 6 and the roads around Bagan have no street lighting! It can be very dangerous to ride in the dark!

We stayed three nights whilst exploring Bagan. Room was large with a decent bathroom. Make sure you get a room with a window. Ours didn't have a window and with all the petrified wood used in construction it was a bit like living in a cave. We did find a very large and aggressive scorpion in our room one morning! Nice shaded courtyard for breakfast. All in all an okay place to stay for a couple of nights.

Room tip: Get a room with a window.

Did not enjoy my stay at Bagan Central Hotel. Recommended in Lonely Planet
On first impressions it looked pleasant set around a peaceful garden, staff were okay
The bungalow style room was furnished quite well but not particularly well looked after.
No hot water. Breakfast was okay. Outside space unkept with piles of old chairs and tables
dotted about. Price was $30 which was above price quoted but I found this with most hotels in Myanmar, prices had been hiked because of influx of tourists.

The hotel consist of rooms around a quiet garden that is used for breakfast. The bungalow style rooms are build from petrified wood stones (!). Breakfast was extensive and different every day. Rooms are large with TV, airco and hot shower at a very affordable price ($25 for a double). Staff is friendly and helpful. Some comfortable chairs in the garden would be nice (and also refraining from parking cars in it).

Room tip: All rooms are nice.
