Antique Hotel in the city

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 31, 2012
the hotel is newly renovate. The lobby full of old photographs of the city in the old day. Nice! The old car and motorcycle as decoration. The location is in the middle of the city. Just nice to spend the night after a long and tiring day, if you just want to walk to the nearest good seafood restaurant in the city. The hotel has a high speed and reliable wifi. We were here during ramadhan. They serve ramadhan breakfast. The only annoying thing is the water leak from the toilet pipe. it's keep the floor a bit wet. apart from that, the service is good.
Date of stay: July 2012
Room Tip: avoid room face to the street. The rest are almost similar.

I stayed at Bumi Senyiur because of I got a call from Aston saying that there was a rennovation at Aston which may disturb guests. Based on that information, we changed our reservation to Bumi Senyiur Samarinda.

The hotel is very old, the lobby, the room, everything! It was my first visit ever to Samarinda, and I really regret my decision to change our reservation from Aston.

I checked in late at 9.30 pm, and checked out the next morning. The good news was, the roadtrip from Balikpapan to Samarinda was very tiring that I could sleep well at this old hotel.

On a good note, the some of the rooms look newly renovated and is relatively clean for an Indonesian hotel of this class. The bad news, things don't work.
Hair dryer in the bathroom is so new it's still wrapped in plastic. Doesn't work.
Wifi in room. Okay it works but it is slower than an old dial up connection.
Very few outlets in the room which is difficult for the business traveller.
Water pressure is terrible.
Walls are paper thin.
And the gym is horrendous. I'm not sure why but gyms in Indonesia are hot as heck. This gym is just hot, steamy and stuffy in an already hot, steamy and stuffy climate. I use gyms in the tropics because the outdoors is oppressively humid. But it was actually hotter in this gym than it was outside. Also the gyms equipment has seen better days. One treadmill is on permanent incline and all the buttons have fallen off.
Not really impressed but it is okay if you are just looking for a clean comfortable place to sleep.

This antique hotel is a well known hotel in older days. It has the classic cars as decorations. Fair room quality but for a high price. The location is easy to reach and near a market. I prefer other newer hotel when I go to Samarinda.

The hotel doesn't look to fancy from outside. But it's get better inside. The owner seems to be collected antique things : feels like showroom at the lobby.
Located at the center area of Samarinda.

Bumi Senyiur surprises you with its expanse given that it is right in the middle of the town. The rooms are spacious but needs some more sprucing up. With so many international business travelers to the town the hotel would do better to have more English speaking staff.

The menu spread at the hotel restaurant was very basic and the lack of warmth by the staff left a lot to be desired.
