We were traveling with a large group....3 aduts and three small children....as we were adopting in Giuyang.

The rooms were small and even through there were two beds i neach room, it was cramped moreso than the hotels we stayed in during our trip (Novatel in Beijing and White Swan in Guangzhou). The rooms has en ough of the amentities, but since there were only 3 tv channels in English, not much variety.

The food was okay, noting to write about. The place was full of Chinese for the week we were there. No Americans or Euopeans to be found. It was difficult to converse witht he staff as at the time we were there, there was only one saff member who spoke any English at all. FOrtunately, the children enjoyed noodles and rice at the buffet,a nd they did eat heartily.

Anoher thing is that is you want to get a massage and you are a man, you will be asked to get all kinds of things that maybe you wouldn't want. The ladies got legit massages and facials, but I was offered soem other serviecs, ones that I could not, under any circumstances entertain in my postion.

Walking around the neighborhood was okay except that this city was not built for families with three children. THe numbe of stares we god were enormous. There are some nice family restaurants in the area, including the often seen KFC, Pizza Hut, Papa Joohn's and one called Pizza Fun....yes there are traditinoal CHinese places, but I was not with adventerous plated people.

We went in July of 2011 but didn't have that option to click.
.

Room Tip: Ask to be upgraded but don't pay for the upgrade.....Non smoking floors are available and a MUST...

This was a comfortable enough hotel in a good position in town. They had a couple of non-smoking floors. Room was big enough with a satisfactory bathroom, TV and tea making facilities. Clean windows would have enhanced the views but it is a multi-storey hotel so maybe that's a bit much to ask for here. Some minor problems we had were fixed cheerfully. Buffet breakfast was quite extensive but food not always hot. The friendly manager spoke excellent English but staff spoke little or none so our basic Mandarin came in handy.

During our travels in China, we found that a lot of cities have a bit of a gulf between their hotel choices. You can stay either in a filthy, smoke infested, dingy, smelly room with spit marks down the wall, or you can stay in a 4 star hotel. The Trade Point is close enough to the latter.

This seemed to be the case with Guiyang. This hotel we chose on location and we weren’t disappointed. It could have been cheaper, but we still felt that we go what we paid for. The bathroom light didn’t work, but that was fixed soon enough. We actually arranged an airport pickup through the hotel and that was efficient and done with a nice car. The windows in the room could use a clean on the outside, but I didn’t see any winch or basket and being a pretty tall building, I don’t know how else they would clean them.

Overall, it’s not the most exciting hotel, but it does the job and it’s in the middle of everything which is always good. There seemed to be usually at least one person who spoke decent English available on staff and they seemed genuinely keen to help. The only odd moment was when we asked to change money. They said “sorry, we can’t change money, because we use Bank Of China to provide this service and Bank Of China is closed today.” So, we asked where we should change money and they suggested the Bank Of China around the corner, which strangely, was open.

I would recommend this hotel and I would recommend Guiyang also. If we had more time, I would have liked to explore it more. The populace seemed pretty chearful and the city seemed to have some soul to it. If you turn left coming out of the hotel, then walk two blocks and take a right, you will find a food market at night-time which did us nicely for a meal.

It's obvious that not that many English speaking tourists stay at the Trade Point since this is the first review in English. However, it is certainly up to western standards. I traveled with a small group of 9; 8 Americans and 1 Australian. The rate was part of a tour so I don't know what it was but I'd guess it's less than the Sheraton for very comfortable accommodations. We stayed for two nights, and then returned to the hotel for one night as we traveled back and forth through the region. The rooms are nicely furnished, relatively large and clean. The windows on the back of the hotel had not been recently cleaned but the front room windows had good views of the lively street scene in front of the hotel. We were on the 13th non-smoking floor and the rooms did not have a tobacco odor as other non-smoking rooms did in some other hotels in China.

We found that most of the staff had quite limited English but there was one woman at reception who spoke very well and other staff called her if we had something more complicated than they could handle. Our guide was also fluent and he sorted out any complications for us. Several of us also used the iphone app TransMate to communicate and that was very helpful at the hotel and elsewhere. All of the staff were very friendly and for the most part we were able to communicate with hand signals, etc. I would recommend this hotel to western tourists.
