“A balcony over the Eden”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

Another excelent Ratpanat camp. This one is slightly less luxurious than the one in Serengeti, but has the advantage of overlooking the Ngorongoro crater.

Tents are very comfortable and staff is excellent. It is cold during the night, but you can not blame the camp for that and beds are really warm.

As I said as regards the Serengeti camp the possibility of going to this camp is an excellent reason to choose Ratpanat fro your trip into Africa.

we stayed one night in the pakulala camp and were the only guests. Our whole stay was great, the welcome by the staff, the excellent tents, the freshly prepared food we were served in a Special tent, the location just on the rim.

We stayed as a couple towards the end of our safari holiday for 1 night, and found the hospitality of this camp to be first class. The location was amazing (with a view right into the Ngorongoro Crater), the food was excellent (high end restaurant quality), and the staff were attentive and friendly. The tents were spacious, well-equipped, clean and had a touch of luxury to them. However due to the natural landscape our tent was on a slope, meaning that the beds were angled slightly, which in turn affected our sleep quality. Having said that, we would not hesitate to return or recommend this to others as the staff, camp, facilities and view were out of this world!

Room Tip: Ask for a tent towards the center of the camp, the land is flatter.

I stayed at the Pakulala Camp with a group of friends for one night in Febuary. It is a classic Tented Safari Camp with around 10 tents that are arranged right on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater in a half circle. The quality of the tents is very good, especially the beds are nice and warm and although it can get really cold at night up there, it is very cozy.
The showers are really hot and you have a proper flush toilet.
The mess tent faced towards the crater as well and in front is a fire place where they serve the sundowners and again you have that awesome view.
service and food are fantastic, too. The only Thing you have to bear in mind really is, that you need to take some warm clothes (the altitude is well over 2000 m)!

I was very lucky that I found the right tour operator (E-Trip Africa) as no one else even suggested this camp in any of the proposals that we received. It is a real tented camp located on the rim so we had amazing views. The tents are well decorated and comfortable. And it was more affordable the other options that we had considered. The staff was fine, not quite five star but friendly and got the job done. Bring a good jacket as it was a little chilly in the evening.

Room Tip: It seems that the view is great from all of the rooms.
