I stayed here for 2 nights for my honeymoon. The rooms are excellent, views are unreal., Food is excellent. No complaints!. plus the bar is great, very socialable and fun to discuss the safaris with others.

Stunning views, fantastic service, excellent food and nightly cultural entertainment. Rooms also had breakthtaking crater views. Could use an updated refurb though. Overall we had an excellent time as part of a corporate tour.

During a perfect round trip in Kenya and Tanzania July/August 2010 Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge was a cold but beautiful and cosy experience. The architecture and location (view of the crater) is fantastic. Service is great! And the crater it self is a 'must go'!

We stayed at 8-9 lodges and camps across Tanzania and Kenya, and liked this one the least. It was fine, but compared to the others, felt more commercial and tired. The rooms are fairly mediocre, and the restaurant was average, with service to match. The views are outstanding, and in its way, the external decor fits and adds appeal.

The lodge is conveniently located between the entrance and exit gates of the caldera (closer to the entrance, a plus if the game-drive starts early in the morning). Since the lodge is at the edge of the crater, the rooms have an outstanding view. We stayed in connected rooms at the top floor where the views are even better.

The bar and lunch area has huge glass walls, so having some cocktails/snacks with live African music before the 18:30 show was very relaxing. The shows (acrobats in first night and Masai dance/chanting in the second) are worthwhile to watch and very popular. So get your seats early !

The dinner four-course menu always had interesting options, and lunch is buffet-style. Both were very good, with a mix of western and African choices.

The heaters in the rooms worked very well, and the hot water bottle kept us warm in bed. The hot water bladder was a very good idea that we will copy in winters back home.

The gift shop had a better assortment than in the other Serenas, and Masai women were allowed to sell their articles inside the hotel as well. Just like in the other Serenas in Serengeti and Manyara, the prices were fair compared to local shops.

The only minor negative point is that wireless internet connection was not available.

This lodge is located right overlooking the crater and the views are amazing. There is plenty of wildlife around the lodge an it is a short drive from the roads in and out of the crater. The food is what you would expect from a four star hotel, and the service is fine if not a little impersonal, mainly due to the full board nature of all the guest and the busy meal times. The rooms are spacious and have all you need for this type of stay. The hot water bottles to warm the beds are a nice touch.

If you are going to Ngorongoro, then this is a great place to stay and relax after the long days of viewing in the back of 4WD.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist, camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers, the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion. Sensitively constructed so as to take nothing from its environment whilst affording endless vistas over the heat-shimmering reaches of the crater below, the clustered boulder-built buildings of the Lodge hug the crater rim, linked by rope-lashed timber walkways that skirt the buttressed roots of ancient, liana-hung trees. ... more   less
