Sunrise which is etched in memory. Fantastic view of the crater from the rim. Sun filtering through the clouds gives a surreal look, as if floating on the clouds. Drive down is bit of a challenge always have good experienced driver to take you down to the crater floor. Animals from lions, buffaloes, giraffe, elephants, wildebeest, waterbucks in plentiful. Went there in Dec 2010 during christmas so a bit chilly esp. at night, it is at some height. Food was nice, dont expect miracles, normal Safari lodge spread.

Room Tip: Rooms far out have morning visitors like deer right out side ur window. Lovely.

A great welcome when we arrived at the Ngorongoro lodge - flannels and a refreshing drink. The staff were very friendly and the service very good. A lovely touch was the hot water bottle left in the bed at night - we were 7500ft above sea level and they said it was chilly! We did not need mosquito nets here. Our room was spacious and the balcony gave a fabulous view of the crater which was amazing. There was entertainment each evening with a lovely fire in the bar area. Thank you Imagine Africa - a good choice. AP

The Ngorongoro crater is the 2nd largest crater in the world and our room had a full view of the crater, this made us "wow". The staff told us that there was no biting insects including mosquito due to the high altitude and that was true. The staff was very friendly. The room was rustic and comfortable. The food was generally good in the restaurant. The evening show in the restaurant was very impressive and enjoyable. The first night was an acrobatic show and the second night was a Masai dance. The Lodge was 4 hours' drive from the Kalimangero Airport and within easy reach to the game park. The game park had a lot of animals in number and we counted 26 different types of animals and birds, although sometimes we could not get closer to the animals because we were not allowed to leave the track. Overall we were very happy with our stay and the experience was unique and exciting.

Our room had a nice private balcony with full view on the crater floor. Even without binoculars you could see the herd of anmimals moving around. The room was very spacy, very quiet as well and good working facilities. The service was good, but not extraordinary - for instance we waited so long for our lunch box that in the end we left the place without it. We had ordered it 3 hours before...

Lovely accommodations. Food was average- we were with a large tour group and all commented on this. Safari trips were amazing and the view from the lodge was beautiful. Often there were animals grazing near the walkways. Nightly entertainment was very good. Can have your laundry done for reasonable prices which came in handy.

This is the most incredible place! The view is amazing and the rock construction unique. There was an earthquake while we ate dinner there and it didn't feel very safe being in a building made of rocks! Apparently the earthquakes are a regular occurrence. Great entertainment.

Room Tip: It's a huge place. Try to get a room close to the dining room.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist, camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers, the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion. Sensitively constructed so as to take nothing from its environment whilst affording endless vistas over the heat-shimmering reaches of the crater below, the clustered boulder-built buildings of the Lodge hug the crater rim, linked by rope-lashed timber walkways that skirt the buttressed roots of ancient, liana-hung trees. ... more   less
