“A Welcome Change”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

My daughter and I had been to three safari camps before staying at Exploreans. The big difference here is that meals are not communal and dinner is served from 7:30 to 9:00. I was nice to have a few quiet dinners with my daughter to reflect on our trip to date. The facility is first class. The grounds are breathtakingly beautiful and the rooms are luxurious in every way. Morley Stanley, the manager, runs a tight ship and service is suberb. The hotel is 6 miles from the entrance to Ngorongoro Crater so this is a good choice if one wants to vistit the Crater. As with other luxury lodges in Africa, drinks, including a good wine selection is complementary

Room Tip: All the rooms are identical. My daughter and I stayed in rooms 4 and 5..........close to the main d...

This was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. First, the gardens and landscaping are beautiful with flowers everywhere and manicured gardens. They have a terrific vegetable garden where they fresh pick for all the meals.
You room is actually a cabin with a large living room, large bedroom and a large bathroom with a shower and separate toilet room. There is also a nice closet and dressing room area. The porch with a beautiful view of the mountains was as big as the rooms with a sofa and game table. There is a gas fireplace that is two-sided into the living room and dining room.
The main lodge is beautifully decorated. There is outside dining there which overlooks a beautiful pool and sundeck and the mountains. We had lunch outside when we got there with fresh lettuce in our ceasar salads.
The have a spa where we got terrific massages that were very helpful after days of riding in bumpy jeeps.
The restaurant was lovely. We had the same server at all our meals and he was a delight. The most special thing about the hotel is the Manager Stanley. He is so professional but friendly and helpful. It went way out of his way for us to take care of things several times. You will never get better service than at this hotel.
This was a very nice change from all the other camps and lodges we stayed in Tanzania. You had your own group and your own table at dinner and it was relaxing as the safari schedule and dinner time was a little looser since you were not having to wait for others. Defintely go to the Exploreans Lodge. You will not be disappointed.

the service was world class... the food was perfect.. the only disappointing factor is that it is quite far from the crater and there is no view of the crater as well... but otherwise it is a great luxurious stay:)

We have been to many African countries many times and this time it was important for us to relax and stay at one place for a longer time. Exploreans was a perfect place to stay and we stayed for 5 nights. The hut we got was spacious and offered privacy and a beautiful view to the Ngorongoro crater rim and the forest on the outside slope of the crater. The beds are way too hard, the only thing I did not like about our room. We enjoyed the hospitality and the ability to organize activities.
We went into the Crater one day and the rest of the time we did walks in the area. The Lodge can offer a very nice and learning walk in the neigbourhood with a very talented young guide. The all inclusive concept works perfect, the food is nice. The breakfast is a bit strange. I find it very akward to order my breakfast and not being able to serve myself with different cheese and other stuff. Recommend you consider doing a nice buffe breakfast instead. But We had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend this place to others.

Room Tip: The 2 huts down the hill, nearest the valley offer most privacy and a beautiful wake up song from th...

Just a few minutes drive from the entrance gate, we spent 2 night in this Luxury Lodge I and my wife for our honeymoon. The cottages were well furnished with Large rooms, fire place and viewing terrace where we relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful sunset. The food was great at Acacia Restaurant, I real enjoyed the local dishes. The peaceful ambiance of the traditional decorated Zebra Bar gave us a relaxed time for refreshing drinks
It's was an amazing experience overnight here

This must be one of Exploreans very best places. The hotel is more like a resort set in beautifully tended gardens. Guests are accommodated in 20 cabins each consisting of a large bedroom, an en-suite bathroom and a large beautifully furnished lounge. A large deck overlooked gardens adjoining a heavily forested ravine. It was somewhat chilly while we were there and the rooms had gas fires in the fireplace and the comfort of hot water bottles in our beds at night. The food is of the highest quality. It is comparable with superb restaurants and was delightfully presented. The service is friendly and staff anticipate the needs of the guests. The public rooms are quite elegantly furnished yet appear welcoming and comfortable. I think this is really one of the very best lodges we visited on our safari tour.

At the beginning, I must put a disclaimer: I cannot evaluate this place as it deserves, as I have only 5 stars in ranking and to be hones, I should put at least 6. Period.

Now, why that?
First, the rooms, or rather I should say, bungalows - very spacious, very nicely equipped with comfortable beds and nice balcony to admire the scenery (and btw, it's well worth!).
Second, the restaurant - and that was THE restaurant bo our evaluation, both vegetarian as well as "carnivorish" dishes were - no, not yummy, they were excellent, with homemade bakery.
Third, the bar - good selection of drinks and smart bartender, this really makes a good evening experience over there...

In a nutshell: great place, great stopover on our safari; we have missed that later on ;)
