Tloma Mountain Lodge, Tanganyika Wilderness Camps
Certificate of Excellence

Set in the hills about 25 minutes off the main road, very green with their own massive vegetable garden and coffee and banana trees, with which they supply the kitchen. This made for good food in the evenings. Breakfasts were quite extensive and good.
Had a beautiful swimming pool, not too cold, which was a welcome treat after travelling all day from Serengeti.
Attractive large rooms and very attentive staff.
It is a nice distance from the Airport, if you were to need a night before leaving.

Room Tip: Some rooms in the trees and appear a bit dingy.

This is the third of my comments after my safari in Tanzania over the last days in January 2014.
Just to make things clear right from the start I´ll go straight to the point : this hotel doesn´t fit the bill, It is a really dissapointing experience.
Lobby and rooms are OK. Nice garden all around but quality of service and food in this hotel have plenty of room for improvement.

Cuisine : too simple and repetitive. Same thing day after day and -even worse- completely tasteless ( white rice, green beans so tough like rubber, more white rice, carrots, more green beans -yes, I know I repeated green beans...). There is chiken and beef but not very good ( particularly beef is like chewing a wheel tire). Prices for wine are ridiculous. Last but not least, horrible orange juice for breakfast ( not natural, a kind of orange-coloured beverage).

Accomodation : rooms are OK but it not acceptable that in a hotel that we are paying very expensive, basic services like wifi are charged ( and very well charged by the way) by the hotel.
It is not acceptable either that hotel blatantly offers you to "treat" your room with a kind "of special process" to kill mosquitos, so you can sleep better and be safe avoiding tropical deseasases. For God´s sake!!! I´m already paying a fortune for accomodation and now you tell me that if I want to get rid off mosquitos I have to pay extra???? You must be kidding!!! No way. I have never seen nothing so unproffesional.

Total scoring for the hotel : BAD hotel. Not recommendable.

Room Tip: I can not recommend this hotel.

I stayed here one night before going to the Serengeti and then another 2 nights after the safari. I traveled with an OAT tour group. The lodge, rooms and grounds are very nice. The beer is cold and purified ice is available for drinks. Beautiful pool area which we enjoyed each day. Food was excellent. The walls are quite thin so you can hear every word and sound in the next room so don't forget your earplugs. Internet also available. Stamps and outgoing mail service at the giftt shop. I would stay here again for sure.

Room Tip: Ask for a single cabin if you want quiet, or no neighbor.

This hotel/lodge was very nice. The grounds are just beautiful; they grow organic vegatables and coffee; both of which are served in the dining room. The staff is friendly and provided excellent service. Of the numerous lodges we stayed at on safari this had the best pool. It was big, heated, very clean in a tranquil setting.

Our room was quite nice, bathroom was well-appointed and had everything you could want. We were in a room that was attached to another room, and we could hear everything they said (and vice versa). If you can get an unattached room, I would recommend that. Other wise, it was great with an attached veranda that overlooked the farm.

We had a pleasant stay at this small lodge near the crater. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are very large and the food was good. The staff members were very nice. They did a great job with a birthday cake celebration (singing & dancing!) for my son during dinner. We found that while we were there all the other guests were part of tour groups from the US. One of the downsides was the walls were very thin so noise from connecting rooms was an issue. Luckily we had relatively quiet neighbors. Staying at tented camps the rest of our stay, I found this lodge not to have the same appeal as a tent and if returning to Africa would only do tented camps but if you want to stay in a lodge, this is a good choice.

We stayed for 1 night at Tloma and it was nice. The rooms were very large, with a nice sitting area and fireplace. The bathroom was well appointed, with a rainfall shower head, which was a nice treat.
The service was average, but the food was quite good. They grow their own vegetables and everything tasted fresh.
The location is nice - it was less than a 5 minute walk to the main road, and we were able to buy some cool sculptures from a shop we saw on our drive in.
There is very very spotty cell phone coverage in the area. We were trying to call home, and kept dropping calls. Also, we wanted to use the computers in the business centre to do some work, but the internet was incredibly slow.
The boxed lunch was cool - they laid out a bunch of stuff and you could pick what you wanted.
Overall, a nice stay. You can't go wrong with this place.
