This was a lovely place to stay during a safari. Beautiful setting, gigantic and well-equipped rooms, refreshing salt-water pool, fantastic food and excellent service. I appreciated their lunch box service which allowed you to pack your own lunch -- a welcome change from the butter sandwich and dried chicken leg offerings of other places! They had a reasonably laundry service ($1 per item). The lodge is on a coffee plantation and the (drip) coffee was EXCELLENT -- we even bought some beans to take home.

We had booked our safari as part of the Thomson/First Choice package hence had no choice of lodges. (Plus we had changes to elements of the itinerary at the last minute). Our third stay was two nights at the Tloma Lodge. The approach is uphill along up a sandy red road but on going through the gates what a surprise, the hotel is set in wonderful gardens which are expertly managed. (Just to say though I felt really guilty as not far from the gates is the communal water storage where people, including small children were getting their water, can’t quite equate this with such a splendid Lodge being so close to what is a poor standard of living for locals but I guess that isn’t the Lodge’s fault.)The hotel was originally a coffee farm and still has coffee bushes. The staff were welcoming and showed us to a room quite near to the reception. The room was large, we had two good sized double beds. The shower room was also a good size, we found the rubber doormat used as slip prevention in the shower very hard on the feet. My only complaint was that we could hear every word said in the next door room! There is a gift shop on site. Drinks are available from the bar and coffee tea and cakes were around during the afternoon. Meals were good with choices for meat eaters and vegetarians. In the morning you make up your own lunch boxes which I think is a great idea. You can choose to dine inside the dining are or outside on the deck. From the deck area there is a pleasant view to the mountains over tree tops. One evening we sat watching lightning flashing over the Ngorogoro crater. If I have any gripes it is that the Lodge is a long way from the parks but in my opinion the standards and ‘greenness’ of the Lodge makes up for it. A very relaxing Lodge.

This was a beautiful place of tropical gardens. Stayed here before and after safari to Sarengeti. Rooms were spacious and clean, beds were a little hard for my taste. Had a very nice pool which turned my blonde hair green...lots of chlorine. A very reasonable same day laundry service. Staff was very pleasant. Restaurant was buffet style and had a good variety. Many veggies from their organic garden. Nice deck for drinks and watching sunset. Stayed here as part of our Overseas Adventure Travel safari tour.

Room Tip: Some rooms in the back are smaller and do not have hair dryers or safes. The two rooms I stayed in...

On a safari through Kenya and Tanzania, we were fortunate to stay here two nights. The grounds are gorgeous! Coffee plants, banana plants, flowers galore. The rooms are very spacious, wtih romantic mosquito netting gracing the beds. Bathrooms were a tad tight, but adequate. Our balcony overlooked a lush vegetable and flower garden. The food in the restaurant (we ate dinners and breakfasts there) was good, but not spectacular. Service was excellent. Note that this lodge does offer internet service, for a nominal fee. Our fellow travelers were impressed that they were able to send out their laundry items for only $1 per item! A very nice lodge, in our opinion.

This lodge is a real surprise! Set off the main road down a rough track, the spacious grounds comprise about 20-30 spacious bungalows with large sliding glass doors, splendid gardens and a very nice swimming pool area. Many birds are attracted to the lush vegetation in Tloma Lodge. The central restaurant and bar is very comfortable with a large wooden deck for outside dining, and very good quality buffet breakfasts and dinners.
The lodge is managed by a young lady call "Happiness" who was extremely well organized and capable.
This lodge is exceptional value for money and a great find. I wish I had taken photos without people in to illustrate how beautiful the gardens are.

Room Tip: All the rooms (bungalows) are spacious with nice views

Tloma Lodge is the perfect place to start your safari in Tanzania near by the Ngorogoro crater.

Room are very spacious, very clean and dispersed in a very nice garden so that everyone one can enjoy its privacy.
The pool was perfect after long game drive day.
Service was so friendly and always ready to help.
Food was as a buffet and still excellent. I am not a buffet fan but it was really made with love and really tasty.. Moreover it as the only place where we could do our own lunch box it as much better, and better quality as the prepacked food you can find in the othere lodges/hotesl.
The perfect size.
At night you can enjoy a sun downer looking over the sunset over the garden and the valley .. beautiful. hey will light up a bone fire for the after dinner tea.

Loves this place and would recommend to anyone traveling to the ngorgoro. Please nte it is still 1h30 drive until you are in the crater.

High expectations of an exclusive experience not filled with tours weren't Realised. Undeniably beautiful surroundings but miles from the crater - took two hours to get into crater from here so a four hour round trip on top of all driving in crater itself . led to believe it wasn't a lodge aimed at big tour groups but an upmarket exclusive inspiring experience . We arrived as it started to rain our cases were dumped well outside the main Reception building but no one bothered to bring them in out of the, by now, pouring rain as we checked in. So we had to drag them in ourselves. There appeared to be no proper reception area just a young woman giving us our keys.
This Lodge was sold to us as being small and intimate and not crowded with tours as the crater rim Lodges would be. How wrong this was there were two very noisy tours in the first night and the staff made it quite apparent that that was where their priorities lay playing loud music all through the meal. . They refused to serve us wine telling us to get it ourselves from the bar, refused point blank  to sell us bottled water and were generally unhelpful and surly.  You make your own packed lunches here if you didn’t mind uncovered food with people smoking over it which happened on our first morning .

By the second night another big party were in so
the Lodge put on a BBQ complete with Country and Western music so much for quiet and peaceful. We then tried to pay our bill the night before we left as instructed in the Lodge’s information sheet but the man at the bar rudely refused point blank to accept our money and told us to go away and it was the morning we must pay . Although the room was ok and the gardens and pool
Undoubtedly beautiful the staff's attutitude was disappinting . The only things we asked of them were standard requests which werent dealt with . there was no obvious person in charge to go to or let alone complain to and most of the staff were surly and unfriendly. a Shame as everything I d read in books online etc led me to believe it would be a gem of a place to stay . We left very disappointed .
