after shopping for other outfitters who do the climb.....there was something about the way desmond dealt with clients that made you feel very comfortable and at ease and i decided to go with him........the hotel is top notch and all our needs were met...he even took care of booking out flight from killi to dar es salaam...........the climb up killi was well organized with top notch quides.....we went up the rongai route and it was as i had expected it to be......my experience was epic..even though summit night was the hardest thing i have ever done.....looking back it was amazing...........i did it with my son and we both summited.....after coming down to the hotel we were very comfortable..........spacious rooms, great food and beautiful grounds to meditate or do yoga.......if you are planning to go to tanzanai staying at the marangu hotel should be your first choice.........bon voyage......

Room Tip: rooms 25 27 are amazing as you have a great view of killimanjaro

Not only is it a nice hotel, but its climbing arrangements are fantastic. We had a group of 11 of us who all safely reached the summit of Kilimanjaro, thanks in large part to the organization of Marangu. Desmond gave us a 2-hour briefing before our climb and I recited many of his words on my way up the mountain. They treat their porters very well, which cannot be said for many other organizations out there offering treks up the mountain. Do your research before contracting with a climbing outfitter. Or just use the Marangu.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are in the rear cottages.

Spacious rooms recently remodeled with modern bathrooms. Nice garden setting. Each lodge has two rooms. We had 12 people in our group and everyone liked their rooms. The restaurant serves very good food. They packed lunches for us for a day hike in Kilimanjaro which was fantastic. Laundry service is excellent and reasonably priced. I've stayed here twice and will be back.

Room Tip: They are all nice.

We stayed at Manangu the day before a kili climb, (which was booked by the hotel). Our flight was delayed an entire day, our luggage was lost, and they went above and beyond to be there for us and adjust our itinerary. The hotel grounds were beautiful, rooms were clean. I ignored previous posts suggesting a day to acclimate at the hotel - but we ended up with one waiting for our luggage and it was AMAZING. We hired a guide ($5) - Frank No Roads- and he took us on a 4 or 5 hour walking tour through villages, gave us plants to eat, swimming in a waterfall, underground caves - it was fantastic. Desmond even went to the airport the evening we arrived - an hour and a half drive- to give us a hike "briefing." The porters and our team- Elias was our guide- took such good care of us. There was always plenty of food, tents set up well- they exceeded all of my expectations. Could not have been a better start to our trip.

Great hotel and trekking company. We booked a two week safari and Kili climb with intrepid and for the climbing part of the trip intrepid booked the Marangu hotel to take us up Kili. Firstly the hotel, it was fantastic especially after a week of camping on safari. The rooms were spacious and set in beautiful gardens and best of all endless hot water. The staff were so helpful and would go out of their way to help you. For our climb they gave a detailed briefing and made sure we were aware of all aspects of the climb. If you were missing any clothing, you can borrow it from their store room free of charge, they have a truly amazing collection. The climb its self was great, we did the 5 day Marangu route. There were four of us and we had a support crew of 11. Our guide Fatali was fantastic, he had us walking at a slow pace from the onset to combat the altitude since we were ascending so quickly. With the help of the Marangu hotel and our guides and porters all four of us made it to Uhuru peak. Can’t recommend the Marangu hotel enough.

The pictures on the net fail to demonstrate what a lovely place this is to stay. The grounds are an old pineapple plantation. The rooms and common areas are artfully done. Most important the management is top flight and very responsive to the needs of its guests.

We spent 3 nights in the Marangu Hotel with our two little children. The hotel is beautifully located, near Mount Kilimanjaro. The cottages are built in a spacious garden with lots of corners to sit, read a book, run around. We did a great and easy hike to the waterfall nearby, a great way to explore nature with kids. Hot water always available, very good beds.

Room Tip: The family room is very spacious and even has a bath with very hot water. We loved that about the pl...
