“Honey Badger Lodge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013

We are sorry that we ended and did not start our safari with the Honey Badger Lodge because of the ambiance, food, pool, rooms and general hospitality of the place and the owners. Our stay there in January of 2013, was one of the high lights of our trip to Tanzania. Even though it was a little hard to find, once we were there it was a great place to explore the country from. The owners are cordial and helpful and are committed to helping the community through support and service. The food was great, the big, flat screen tv and pool were outstanding. This is a place not to miss!!

Thank you for taking the time to review our lodge. We were glad that you finally did make it over to us and only sorry that the time was not longer and that we were not able to arrange your whole trip for you. We warmly welcome you back to Tanzania and to the Honey badger on future travels.
All the best

My husband and I stayed at the Honey Badger for about 2 weeks in January, 2013. We love the friendly atmosphere and staff. Everyone always greeted us with a smile and were so accommodating and helpful.

The atmosphere is so welcoming and since there are several other groups of volunteers and tourists, it was so much fun to sit at meals or just hang out in the bar area and share stories.

We appreciate the fact that the owners, the Renju family are community oriented and do so much to help support local people through job training and employment opportunities. They also support education and other organizations to help their community. It makes me feel good to know that through my patronage, I am also helping the community.

Amos, the tour manager was great at helping us plan at day tour of a coffee plantation, Chaga caves and Marangu Falls. It was super interesting and just a great day. He also planned a 3 day safari for us, which was an amazing experience.

Other perks included some of the best pizza I have eaten anywhere and a lovely pool to cool down in after a long hot day of volunteering or touring.

I encourage anyone taking a trip to Tanzania to stay at the Honey Badger. It has the feel of staying with friends, which is so welcome when traveling from afar.

And we loved having your here! Thank you for your review and for choosing to go on Safari with Honey Badger Lodge. We were delighted to finally meet you after so many years of collaborative efforts between yourselves and our community. Whats even better is your visit has proven to be a catalyst for our continued mutual involvements. After your introduction to Jesca (and what a wonderful women she is) we are now proud supporters of her Jiendeleze women's group. We have materials and products from her groups in our shop, we had one of her tailors here last weekend and we are working on developing soap with one of her women's groups from whom we can purchase materials for the lodge! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...

We had a great stay on the Honey Badger Lodge in January 2013. We were a group of 9, we stayed for three days at the lodge and also did a one night safari organised by the Honey Badger. The lodge itself was perfect. Comfortable rooms in a great setting, a lovely swimming pool and delicious food - the perfect place to spend our last few days in Tanzania. Jenny and Joey were very accommodating and proved the perfect hosts, greeting us on our first night and serving up a nice cool drink and delicious pizzas - just what we needed after a long day of travelling. I would highly recommend a visit if you are planning to do a safari or trek in Tanzania.

We very much enjoyed hosting you, organizing your safari and a highlight watching your adhoc swimming pool competitive activities...! We warmly welcome you all back to Honey Badger whenever the opportunity arises and hope that the cross continental cyclists are proceeding on well.

I have just returned from 10 days staying at Honey Badger Lodge. This is my second visit - working with a team of international teachers offering workshops to about 30 local teachers from the Moshi Rural Education District. Honey Badger Lodge was our base, thanks to the incredible support from Jenny and Joey Renju. We were offered space to conduct the workshops, our Tz teachers were provided with meals there and our team stayed there. Joey and Jenny are excellent, attentive hosts, the accommodation is simple but very comfortable and the food extremely good (the addition of pizzas to the menu is fantastic and the Thai curry was truly delicious!)The pool at the end of a long day of workshops is very welcome as is the ministrations of Daudi, the Maasai barman who has some excellent stories to tell along with Anderson, also a barman extrodinaire. Everyone is very friendly and extremely helpful. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The newly added rooms are excellent.

I recently stayed at the Honey Badger Lodge while attending a nearby conference. The staff was exceptionally helpful and pleasant, and the rooms, while not luxurious, were large and comfortable. The pool area was terrific--ideal to spend a couple of hours to relax and unwind. The price was very reasonable, especially considering that meals were included.

The location is on the outskirts of Moshi, which makes it very quiet and peaceful. However, if you want to get into town for any reason, you'll need to take a taxi.

A couple of tips: be sure to bring a flashlight, as power outages are frequent, and you may need it to get back to your room at night. The electrical outlets in my room didn't work; however, I was able to charge my phone at the bar.

The waterfall/cave tour is definitely worth taking, it was fascinating. It can be arranged through the main office.

Whether you are in Moshi for a longer time or just passing through, The Honey Badger Lodge is THE place to be! We stayed there right before Christmas and had a wonderful experience. It is a truly lovely place with a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and perfectly clean. The staff is super friendly, service-minded and they could not have been more accommodating. We had most our meals at the lodge and the food is absolutely lovely. When dinner is served, they have you sit together with other guest, which is a great chance to meet other people.

We also climbed Kilimanjaro through Honey Badger and we had the most amazing time! Everything was well-organized, we felt safe and well taken care of the whole climb. The food was delicious and the guides were absolutely fantastic and made sure we made it all the way to the top. There are numerous of activities and trips organized by the lodge, and we heard only good things from the other guests. Also, the Honey Badger helped starting and still supports an Education Center right next door, which we think is a wonderful initiative.

We have stayed at several different places in Tanzania, but this is the best by far! It is genuinely a really nice place and we recommend it whole-heartedly.

I have just spent a wonderful Christmas and New Year at Honey Badger - It was a great break and the atmosphere and hospitality was just fabulous. Lovely easy, comfortably place to stay. The staff were very welcoming and the service, both in the great restaurant and bar, and for the rooms, was great. The pool is an absolute joy, and the grounds are kept beautifully. Its a must for any travellers who pass thro Moshi - DON'T FORGET TO STOP AT HONEY BADGER!! its a true oasis.
