“hell in heaven!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2012

this charming place unfortunately was a let down! view is fantastic but everything else was poor. The rooms is a garish pink but the only escape is the occassional view of mt kilimanjaro.
the owner a local, sitting in bar in the evening drinking and watching loud tv!! checking out we understood that we were over charged and the owner shouted loudly at the poor receptionist in front of guests who broke down in tears later. staff tried best but untrained and look tired. not the kind of place would want to return to simply because of the air of sorrow hanging in the location.

Stayed here in October 2011 2 days before and 1 day after our Kilimanjaro Trip. We arived at 1am from London and the kitchen had made a sit down buffet syle dinner for us to eat on arrival. We knew were were in for a good stay at this moment! Our bags were loaded of the coach and the posrters help take them to the rooms. We had a group of 32 so pretty much took over the whole place.

The rooms are all detatched bungalow style with En-suite bathrooms. Its 2 to a room with 2 single beds. Each room is clean with a table and chairs and 2 plug sockets (all uk plugs). There's a hot shower in each bathroom. The beds have mostquito nets fitted so no need to bring your own. The rooms have a balcony with a small table too (the we hardly used it).

The grounds are well looked after and it feels like you're in a nice safe surrounding which is a bonus. We realised at daylight that this is a coffee platation and farm. Dont be put off, you dont see any of the farm stuff except when arriving and leaving.

There is a Bar area (beers 2US Dollars for 500ml) and a Tv (occasionally showing western sports). This is open till you stop buying - 4am for our party on all 3 nights...

There is a small pool enought for a small swim but the star attratction is that you can (when the clouds have gone) get a great view of Kilimanjaro. Also from behing the main building you get a greta view over the rest of Tanzania (though the mountain is the one everyone wants to see).

The food in the hotel has a distinct local feel. Always 10-15 dishes to choose from but for eg chicken and rice would be a chicken wing on the bone. Personally no issues for me but some people are fussy so thought I'd mention. Always the food was well cooked and nicely presented - and no one had any issues after eating it. The hotel also put an outdoor BBQ on after the trip which was great.

The hotel is a 15 min car ride to central Moshi but the hotel will take you there if you can be flexible on timing. if thats the only downside there really isn't a reason to stay anywhere else!

if you're booked here on a Kilimanjaro trip then no need to worry - you'll love it here!

Stayed here before and after our Kilimajaro climb. Is a nice place - comfortable beds, pleasant staff, a bar that stays open more or less as long as you want it to. Not very convenient for town, but they will arrange transport down if you want it. The food was pretty good. And they cleaned our boots after the trek, which was excellent.

We stayed there as a base for our Kilimanjaro climb and stayed 2 nights before and 1 night after the climb. It is located in a brilliant scenic location. Rooms are simple but nice and tidy. It is a place to laze and completely let yourself free from the outside world. Peaceful and serene with the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro overloking it.. We were all vegeterians and the chef rustled us some wonderful veggie food. They even have a small farm onsite form where some of their food comes from!!! How fresh can you salad get. I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel. I would definitely return here.

Room Tip: Nice clean simple rooms with comfortable beds.

We stayed in the lodge before and after we climbed the Kilimanjaro.
The lodge is situated outside of Moshi, 1 hour drive from the airport. It took another 1 hour to Machame Gate and on the way back, the transfer from Mweka Gate back to the lodge is only 20 minutes. The lodge is situated on a large coffee plantation, where you can walk around. The lodge itself is in a beautiful garden, well maintained and with a nice swimming pool. When the sky is clear (not when we were there), you can see the Kilimanjaro from the pool.
The lodge consists of a main building with reception and restaurant and about 20 cottages (rondavel style). They are attractive from the outside with bright colours and hand painted decorations, but inside they are rather basic, not really spacious and with relatively old, but solid furniture. The beds sleep well and do have mosquito nets. The bathroom is outdated. The room and bathroom are very clean though! And the staff is very helpful and friendly!
The meals were good, but nothing fancy. Breakfast was cooked on order with lots of fresh fruit from their own garden. Delicious! Lunch and dinner were good, but with limited choice.
We were the only guests, so it was very quiet.
All staff were really doing their best to make sure that we had a good time.

Very nice staff. Charming bungalow rooms. Very quiet. Small swimming pool. Quiet restaurant.
It's set in a remote coffee plantation, so it's not convenient to anything, but it's very peaceful and relaxing, and hardly a mosquito in site due to the higher altitude (it sits on a hill). Gets chilly at night.
