Our stay at Butiama Beach was one of the best holidays we've ever had. Beautiful, brand new resort, with tasteful aesthetics that blend perfectly with the natural environment. Amazing beach just one step out of our bungalow (*and I say that coming from Greece, where we do have beautiful beaches). Great food every single day. And of course the service - the owner, Maura, has done a really great job with that. The personnel where always helpful and smiling. I would say Butiama Beach has all the standards of a five-star resort, adjusted to fit a natural environment in an eco-friendly way.
Although Mafia is considered to be a "scuba diving paradise" we had an excellent and unforgettable time without scuba diving. Every day we had boat trips, picnics on different beaches, snorkeling and visits to the local villages. 6 days passed in an instant, wishing that we had 6 more at Butiama... We would definitely go back one day. It was a holiday to remember.

Arriving at Butiama Beach we were warmly welcomed by Maura, one of the owners of the lodge. She brought us some freshly squeezed orange juice and we sat down and chatted as the staff took our bags to our little home for the next two weeks! :) From that moment on we knew it was going to be complete bliss!!

The location of the lodge is breathtaking. Its nestled on a private beach with stunning views and the sunset at our doorstep every night! The bungalow we stayed in was very colourful with a fresh feeling, and the terrace was kitted out with a hammock and a comfy lounge area! We spent many evenings there just chilling out and watching the sunset! Bungalows were kept clean and smelling good! :) The level of service at the lodge is completely above average! TEN STARS THERE!! Everybody is super friendly and keen to make the experience as relaxing as possible for you.

The food was the best food I've ever had in my life!! A huge selection of fresh fruits, pancakes, cereal, muffins, bacon, eggs, sausage, bread!! and thats only breakfast! Lunch and dinner consisted of lots of seafood, vegetables, SUSHI, beef! Anything and everything really! Excellent quality, fresh and always served with a smile! :)

For activities, we did alot of snorkelling. We did our open water dive course at the dive centre on the island. We took the kayaks down the lagoon through the island. We enjoyed long walks on the beach. We were in the ocean every day. We took a dow to one of the other islands and had lunch prepared for us on the beach! We went fishing on the speedboat, which was LOADS of fun! We caught 4 1/2 fish ( the one got chomped in half by a baracuda ) and had them later for dinner ( Ally the experienced chef / dive master / snorkelling guru / skilled fisherman / fish expert and entertainer made sashimi from the fish we caught! A man of many talents! ). We also ventured into town and went to the local markets.

We stayed at the lodge for 2 weeks and to be honest, we didn't want to leave! It was an amazing experience. So good that were coming back next year!!!

Arriving at Butiama Beach we couldn't help but notice the beautiful view - the Indian Ocean and a beautiful white sandy beach was right there in front of us. We just knew that we would relax 100%! The rooms were so cool and colourful, decorated with kikoi material in different colours - our room was blue and it was clean and fresh with a nice breeze blowing through. The best thing was the terrace, it was spacious with a hammock, table and chairs and a lounge bed with the same colourful kikoi cushions. I saw myself spending endless hours in the hammock reading my book and looking out at the ocean...and that's exactly what I did!

The food was delicious, a nice variety of seafood, veggies, all freshly made. Breakfast is great too, a choice of eggs, pancakes, breads, jams and honey.

The setting is relaxing and no one hurries you to do anything which is what you want on a holiday. For activities, we enjoyed the long walk down the beach, appreciating the nature with the late afternoon sun. With the kayaks we went up a little creek and saw many birds. We went fishing which was good fun (my first time!) and to the sand bank, about 15mins by motor boat, that was stunning! Crystal clear water and white sand...heaven! And a great fish bbq to top it all off! We didn't go looking for whalesharks, I think the season was at its end but we will return for sure!

4 days at Butiama Beach and our batteries were recharged, we felt well taken care of (by Maura and Moez the owners and managers of the place) and just relaxed and happy! Ready to face work and the 'real' world :)
