“Expensive and not worth it”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

Stayed at Edward Charles manor in December and the place very average. The room itself needs a bit of a renovation. The linen was absolutely tread bare and felt like it would tear at any minute. The staff was extremely friendly and pleasant, but I was expecting something far superior for what I paid for. The breakfast was quite mediocre and not something to look forward to in the morning. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Nice guest house, only needs to get a little more care with the towels. Charlene helped us with all our request. Breakfast was OK. Good place to be. They need to renew the towel sets, some of them look to old, clean but old.

At end of long drive across South Afirica , this was probably one of the best guest houses I stayed in . Very efficient reception , huge , clean bedroom and bathroom , comfy bed , from which I could look out over the bay .... Bliss !!!
Breakfast cooked to order and very good , easy walk into friendly little town , off road parking a little cramped but ok .
Very impressed , would definitely recommend .

Thank you very much for all your help in Edward Charles hotel , and, please, send my regards to all the persons working in the hotel Edward Charles, very specially to Charlene. I am confident of her professionalism. Also, she was able to find time to help me when I arrived, participated to the CIGRE meeting all the week and when I went back to Cape Town.

We stayed in Edward Charles. This guesthouse is at first sign cosy and staff seem friendly. Cleanliness is ok, breakfast is not the best, but the thing that made us upset was that half of our money disappeared from the safe in the room. Safes are not safe at all and we could experience that in the worse way... Safes work with keys that can be easily copied and the safes opened. Unfortunatelly for us, the owner did not assumed any responsability on that, giving us only a small discount, probably hoping we would not write a review about it... So, if you plan to stay here, be aware of this! In 3 weeks in South Africa, this was the only problem we had...

Our overall stay here was good. The best part was the view from our room and the big comfy bed. Breakfast was also great as they cooked to order! This hotel is starting to fade a little around the edges but all in all its close to town and has lots of parking so its a good choice for the price.

The Edward Charles was in a fairly cetnral location in Mossel Bay, only a short walk down a hill to the main street and to the beach and harbour.

On arrival we were told we'd been upgraded and were shown to a huge room on the first floor, with a lovely balcony and floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides. The bed in the room was beautifully presented, but the rest of the furniture was fairly cheap, which was perhaps why there was a slight feeling of being in a budget hotel. Having said that, there was a fridge and safe in the room along with tea and coffee making facililties. The large bathroom had corner bath and a separate shower. The bed was large and very comfortable although missing a pillowcase for some strange reason. As there were six pillows to choose from, this wasn't a big deal!

Breakfast in the morning was lovely with a good choice of food on offer and the option for cooked breakfast as well.

Due to the current water shortage, the only slight disappointment was that the swimming pool was out of action, however for R690 (£58) for the night, we felt the Edward Charles was good value.
