I really want to like this place, and obviously many people do, but I just feel its a little confused in what its trying to be?
We liked the tented lodges, which really give you the feel of a safari. The antelopes you see by some of the tents are always there and whilst not tame, are used to people.
The staff are lovely and want to please both in the restaurant, spa, game drives and reception.
I have mixed feelings about the 'game meat' being served at dinner. In fact the only warthogs and crocodiles (together with zebra meat and springbok) we saw were on the barbecue! Is this really to be encouraged in a conservancy?
I couldn't help but be disappointed with the animal side of things. Yes, its great to breed endangered Bontibock and Cape Zebras, but the Rhinos, Giraffes, Lions and Elephants are a collection rather than truly wild. That's OK as far as it goes if they are being conserved. But what I felt was missing were the many fascinating and interesting small animals and birds that you expect to find in South Africa, which could have been given an area? Things like the mongoose, the rock dassie, etc. They have built a bird hide by the lake, but as yet its only attracted coots.
So to me, its more like a day visit to a hotel with a zoo than a safari lodge.
Still enjoyable for many though and I'm not knocking it.
