Botlierskop is conveniently located when on Garden Route trip. Although you don't get the real safari feeling, the setting is perfect. We had two Deluxe Tents along the river and truly enjoyed the accommodation. All pictures look straight out of those fancy magazines and felt the same. They offer elephant back tour's and pick-nick with the elephants, which were both wonderful. The restaurant has great food and HUGE Fire Place and service was great. Certainly recommend Botlierskop for (young) families.

Room Tip: The tents on the river side are awesome!

Just returned from an amazing holiday in SA - finished off nicely by 2 nights at Botlierskop. Stayed in Tent 1 - the closest to the pool and the bar but still very quiet. The tent itself was amazing. Super comfy huge bed, great decor, outside shower, bath tub that overlooks the verandah - really luxurious.

We did 2 game drives with Rupert - very knowledgeable and friendly and made sure he showed us everything on offer. All the staff were incredibly hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. Great food, reasonably priced wine, lovely pool, fabulous weather.... We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Make sure you do the elephant feeding and the cat walk.

As other reviewers have pointed out - this is not a huge safari experience as the animals are all very used to being gawped at and there is not the "wild" feeling you would get at Kruger, but this is a fabulous way to get to see some of the Big 5 ( we saw buffalo, elephants, lions, rhino but no leopards that we know of) without travelling for miles if you are around the Western Cape.

Really reasonably priced too - would definitely recommend - especially as Botlierskop is about 20 degrees hotter than London right now!!

Room Tip: Room 1 if you want to be close to the pool and bar

This was the highlight of our trip along the garden route. We were handed a very generous glass of champagne as we arrived, which set the tone for the outstanding service we received throughout our stay. The rooms were amazing, the comfiest bed EVER, double outside shower, gorgeous complimentary bath products, waking up to a stunning sunrise...and this is all before I start on the food (I have to say the breakfast here cannot be beaten) and the actual game reserve. Our game driver was so friendly and knowledgeable and we really felt like he wanted to get the most out of each drive and for us to see as much as possible, we loved every minute of our stay here and I recommend it to literally everyone!

Room Tip: We were in room 7 and 8, both were brilliant

If you're going to bother going on a safari in Africa, just pay out the rest of the cash and stay the night while you're at it. It's a fantasy experience. The luxury tent that we stayed in with the outdoor hot tub and shower and the river we had to cross to get to the tent was amazing. Clayfoot bathtub, colonial desk, heating, aircon, four poster bed, living room....Best Tent in the world! Also, breakfast and dinner were included. The food was amazing and we had a great choice of game meats. Presentation was beautiful. The lodge was gorgeous. The safari guides were well informed and very personable and even though you lost all illusions of things being "wild" animal treatment and was natural, kind, safe and you were able to see all of the big 5 except the hippo. I also liked the feeling of a family business.

We stayed for four days in Room 7 - last one on the end so no one walking past. The room was FANTASTIC but I think it will be the last place you'd want to spend your time considering the experiences on offer. You're pampered from the moment you drive onto the reserve! Reception, chefs, waitresses, tour guides and even the cleaners showed every bit of professionalism, knowledge and skill. Their commitment to preserving the environment, protecting the wildlife and their absolute passion for their work shines through when you go on a safari drive. You're guaranteed to see wildlife (unlike large game reserves). Stay 2 nights and experience EVERYTHING! My fist time with wild animals, first horse ride, first walk with lions at the neighbouring park, feeding elephants and safari ride. Every moment was memorable. If you feel up to it do the night safari - a highlight considering we we're the only two with the two guides! This was a holiday no one will ever forget and we cannot thank the staff at Botlierskop enough, and we can't wait to see them again!

Room Tip: Room 7 is far away from everyone, and people walking past. All rooms come with air-conditioning that...

My son and I had a two fantastic nights stay at Botlierskop. We stayed at the bottom of the hill in Tent No 10 from 8-10 Jan 2013. Our Guide Collin met us as we arrived with a welcome drink. He explained everything from the dinning arrangements, the activties we had pre-booked to where we could check our email in the conference room. We were then taken by golf cart to our amazing 5* twin bedded tent and left to settle in.
During our stay we had four game drives, a visit to the Lions, feeding the Elephants and a night time visit from a four legged animal trying to get into our tent (which my son said "I had been dreaming" until he unzipped the tent in the morning and found the present it had left for us).
Collin our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about the animals, birds, plants and habitat conservation work at Botlierskop Game Park. The food was out of this world especially the evening meal where you could choose from Zebra, Chicken, Kudu, Crocodile tail and Ostrich. All the staff were attentive and went out of their way to make everyones stay a happy and enjoyable one.
This was my fourth safari and my sons second but the first time we had stayed in a tent. It was a whole new experience and would highley recommend Botlierskop Game Reserve.
