One word covers everything - EXCELLENT!
The service, staff, accommodation & food couldn't be faulted. The extra touches, eg the personal wake up call complete with a cup of tea and shortbread biscuit; the packed lunch handed to you as you finished breakfast; the cleaning and return of your walking boots and the Chef tracking you down for your evening meal choices.
I stayed in the Cyahafi Banda (No 3 on the RHS of the hill going up to the Main Lodge) which had spectacular views of the sunrise and the lake below. Lighting is via solar power which also provides the hot water - both were more than plentiful. There are no power points in the Bandas but you can charge mobile phones and cameras in the lounge area of the Main Lodge which also provides the WIFI.
Visiting the gorillas was just such a special moment - Kwitonda was a gentle giant. A little one tapped my foot on the way past me to his/her mother - I almost fainted! No need for zoom lenses as you really do get so close to them. I hired porters who were worth their weight in gold!.
I booked my trip through Aardvark Safaris in the UK (Jo & Gale were fabulous) and my guide (Moses) was provided by Volcanoes Safaris. He was very knowledgeable and patient - he did have a long wait for me when I completed the trek to Dian Fossey's grave as the altitude played havoc with my breathing and I had to stop for breaks on the way up.
I made this trip alone but was made very welcome and at ease by everyone involved. Thank you all.
