Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: The "Parc National de Volcans" (or PNV as it's known by locals) lies along the Virunga Mountains, with 8 ancient volcanoes, which are shared by Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Just a short two hour drive from Rwanda's capital of Kigali, the park is a central location for exploring some distinctly Rwandan experiences. While a visit to the mountain gorillas is often at the top of visitor, the dramatic landscape also offers thrilling hiking and visits to the fascinating golden monkeys.

This was a great gorilla trek/hike. We got really close to a group of gorillas and were able to take amazing photos. The staff were very helpful with scouting and leading us there quickly and safely. Great experience!

Well, It's official....of all the wonderful places in the world I have been fortunate to visit.....absolutely nothing can compare to the incredible and heart warming experience of sitting only a couple of metres away from a family of Silverback gorillas and their tiny fluffy 3 month old babies. Period.
Words just don't do this experience justice and I don't think I have ever had a wider smile on my face for a full hour before. Simply awesome!!! The hike was long and challenging but worth every single step to come face to face with a group of enormous gorillas for the first time. The gorillas totally accepted our presence as if we were one of their own, and it was in fact, the rangers who had to keep making grunting sounds to get the young gorillas to back away!! They were very inquisitive about us being there, wanting to get closer, and they provided us with so many laughs and entertainment. I can honestly say that I can't imagine having any other experience that could rival a Gorilla Trek in Rwanda. It was a privilege to spend time with such gentle and playful families. I can't recommend this trip highly enough. So please do yourself a favour and book it up!!!

No one ever tells you how awesome Rwanda is, only the Gorillas. Please do yourself a favour if you're coming here and stay an extra week. There is so much more here to do, and the people are AMAZING and so friendly, easily my favourite country in Africa!

Rode camels and toured through the Volcano landscape - extraordinary scenery more like the moon or mars.
