Wonderful views over Lake Kivu are the highlight of this accommodation. With a small private beach (no towels provided), outdoor eatery and a private island you can reach by canoe, this is a place to rest if needed. You can also take a short drive to see the border crossing (closed to tourists) with the D.R.C.

The rooms are comfortable and decorated with double beds (or two singles) some cane furniture and large mosquito nets. There is a mix of small round huts or two storey block with four rooms. We stayed upstairs in the block which has the best views of the lack. On the down side bring your ear plugs. The road to and from town runs right behind the block and it can get busy in the early evenings. Our shower was warm and the shower head falling apart providing more of a 360 spray; all part of the African experience.

There is also a bar and restaurant which serves a diverse range of food from pizza to local dishes served by a very friendly group of staff. I discovered that I had a different understanding of grilled when it came of my fish and bananas. The food is good but take a book with you or just enjoy the tranquility as it can take a while to arrive. Breakfast outside with the buzz of the town in the background is wonderful.

There is wifi in the restaurant area however for those old enough it will bring back memories of dial up modems....on a bad day!

NB: Only cash payment accepted however there ATMs in town that accept Visa card.

Room Tip: Rooms in the block back on to the road so can be noisy at night.

I've spent a night and had an excellent meal at this venue in 2012. Wonderful view of Lake Kivu, excellent fresh fish and banana fries. Decent standard rooms, clean and tidy. Definitely can be a place to stay if better sleeping options in Gisenyi are unavailable.

After gorilla trekking we headed to Lake Kivu for one night. We usually stay at the Serena but wanted to try something a bit smaller. We are so glad we did. The rooms are clean and spacious. The food at the restaurant is delicious. This is one of the best value hotels in Rwanda. You wake up in the morning to the singing of returning fisherman. And you are charmed by the lovely people that run this small hotel. Definitely a gem.

If you are looking for a simple, peaceful and magically relaxing place in Rwanda then look no further than Paradis Malahide. This place is strategically located on the shores of Lake Kivu overlooking a beautiful Island with nice view to catch up on the activities on the lake. Food is very good and well prepared. Having had a very packed safari trip from Uganda's wonderful Parks of Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Bunyonyi and Rwanda's Volcanoes' National Park, this place was nature's perfect gift for a tired and spent soul to relax and regain some energy for the next and final leg of safari to Kigali through Nyungwe. The staff and owners of this Property are so warm and welcoming making your stay here quite rewarding. The food is great and sitting by the water side while having a meal is a well thought of plan.Guest send off makes you feel good and desired as well. This place would be good as well for honeymooners!

Stayed here in January 2013. Completely blown away by the excellent location, accommodation, food and service. The hotel is in a fantastic location right on the lake with excellent views. The rooms are simple and yet comfortable and spacious with good ensuite facilities. The food in the hotel restaurant is fantastic and very reasonably priced. The customer service is incredible and the waiters will do anything for you. Very charming character and feel to the whole place. Comes highly recommended. PS. Say hello to Emmanuel one of the waiters he is an absolute legend!
