The area is really nice and relaxing.
There are 3 different types of accommodation, all with share bathrooms: bungalows, tents (located on the lower part) and very basic tents (located on the upper part). Although both kind of tents have exactly the same price the ones in the upper level were at the time unfinished, roofless, smaller, with less furniture and further away from the hot showers.

During our trip we stayed twice in the INZU lodge and the experience was completely different in both of them.
The first time we booked through Booking and got one of the nice tents, on the lower part, with beautiful views over the lake. The mattress had seen better days, as it was a bit uncomfortable but the tent had a terrase with a couple of chairs and a table and you could really enjoy the atmosphere.
The second time we stayed, we were allocated one of the tents on the upper level although we had booked one of the other. The tent had an unfinished roof, and the workers kept working on it even when we were inside.

WIFI is only available in the reception and extremely slow.
Breakfast is not included on the price. The fruit plates are delicious
It takes a long time to cook and serve but average for Rwanda.
If you are in a hurry it´s better to order in advance the previous night.
Food is a bit overprice. Avoid ordering half chicken, as it´s not a half chicken but a couple of tiny overcooked pieces of it.

Room Tip: Tents on the lower part are nicer and have better views. Avoid the ones on the upper part. No good value for money.

I apologize that your experience at Inzu Lodge did not meet your expectations, and I thank you for your review so that we can work to improve our lodge and our customers’ stay. I also apologize if the workers where working on the roof of your tent when you was inside. Now, all the new tents have the bamboo roof and we put a water heater in the bathroom by the new tents so that everyone will be close to a hot shower. All new tents are finished and have beds, chairs, a little table, and linens. Thank you again for your feedback, and I will continue to work with my staff to improve our customer care at Inzu Lodge.

Kind regards,
Marie-Noelle

We stayed for two nights at Inzu Lodge before heading on the Congo-Nile Trail with our mountain bikes for days of fun and adventures. The lodge overlooks Lake Kivu and the region has a pleasant climate. We slept like babies in our comfortable tent. The hot showers are down by the restautant and are very clean with plenty hot water. Sitting in the restaurant with a tall Primus beer and some of the best food we've had in Africa time stood still. Marie-Nöelle, the French-Canadian owner, has created an oasis pf peace. Merci!

Room Tip: There are 4 older tents--bigger, lower, closer--and 4 newer ones, try to get an older one if you need space and proximity to restrooms.

What you see on the pictures of the Inzu Lodge is not necessarily what you'll get. Four new tents are in the process of being finished (but are NOT yet finished) and you might end up in one of them for the same price as what you see on the pictures on their website. The tent I had had only a bed in it and a little furniture to place a suitcase; that was it! No chair (the neighbors lent me one), nowhere to hang the towel, no nice, no private terrasse. At least, I was lucky enough that my tent had a roof over it to protect it from the rain! Two others tents didn't have that yet. No shower with hot water nearby... Three out of the four "group of guests" staying in the newer tents complained but nothing was done. The owner was not there, nor was the manager who was unavailable as he was attending a wedding ceremony. One of the chaps at the reception (Christophe or Christian) was helpful and really tried to help, but he was the only one! All in all very poor service.
The food is nothing to write home about; service is slow but that is normal.
If you want to use one of the two hot showers, you have to pass in front of everyone in the restaurant. Also, if you don't want to wet your pants putting them on after the shower, be prepared to do so in public.
Wifi is only in the reception and is very slow.
The view is really nice and it is a relaxing atmosphere.
If you get a "older" tent (in the lower section, close to the restaurant), your stay might be much closer to what has been promised. Otherwise, don't expect much. What is really not understandable to me is that those "unfinished" tents are the SAME PRICE as the other ones!
I would NOT recommend staying at this place, unless you ensure that you have a finished tent, with everything it is supposed to have inside.

Room Tip: Ensure you have an "older" tent (i.e. not still in the process of being finished)

All new tents are finished and are supposed to have beds, chairs, a little table, and linens, so if you were missing a chair, I apologize. 3 of the 4 new tents have roofs to protect the longevity of the tents (with the fourth roof currently under construction), but all tents are waterproof. Thank you again for your feedback, and I will continue to work with my staff to improve our customer care at Inzu Lodge.

If you are here to relax and get away from the dust of rough roads and intensity of markets and daily life this will suit you very well. Clean, interesting, great views, good (generous) food, friendly staff, great bird life.
However if you are after speedy service, ensuite bathrooms, wifi in every space then this is not for you.
I will be returning to Rwanda and would stay here again.
