Malonda Lodge is truly a hidden gem...

The decor alone is worth the visit. The kindness, warmth and generosity that we were shown made us feel like we were home and cared for like family. The level of service is outstanding, and they have thought of everything to make sure you have a nice stay. From the moment we got there to the day we left. We couldn't have asked for more.

The food and wine are outstanding. Fresh fish, incredible filets and delicious appetizers...

Many thanks to Grace & Gerard and their team for a memorable stay. We recommend Malonda Lodge to anyone looking for an fantastic experience!

I chose this property based on reviews on this site and for its proximity to the Angolan border (Cabinda) which is 18 km away--very easy border crossing if you have an Angolan visa in hand.

It's run by an Angolan lady of Portuguese descent and her French husband who have lived all over the world and have a lot of taste. In addition to the 15 bungalows spread across a sprawling hill top overlooking a sand bar in the Atlantic, they are building a conference center, health center and plan on having Internet access.

It's peaceful and the owners run a tight ship. Madame Grace can be a bit abrupt (but her husband is very welcoming), but she runs a tight ship. The food (seafood) is wonderful--except for the breakfast which is a bit skimpy and consists of a few small pieces of bread obviously taken from the freezer and toasted, some margerine and marmaladey type jam; a small glass of orange juice and tea or coffeee. Oh! And it's not included in the price of the room...

This is not a cheap place--$180 for a single. For that you get a spacious bungalow with airconditioning, a patio, a queen and one twin bed, sideboard style desk with chair and a good sized bathroom with shower. They cater mostly to expats from Kinshasa, Brazzaville and occasionally some expats from Pointe Noire. They don't take credit cards but do accept dollars, Euros and Central African Francs.

It's a 45 minute drive from Pointe Noire to the resort or 30 minutes from the airport. There's no other accomodation or restaurant around, so you don't have any other meal choices unless you have a car. (Just as well the food is good--if you like seafood.) From the airport expect to pay between 6-7,000 CAF. You can book a taxi through the resort but I got a cheaper price by negotiating my own deal with the driver at the airport and then have him take me around the rest of my stay.

I called the property to make my booking as they don't yet have e-mail. They did, however, promise to go into town to confirm my reservation by e-mail so that I would have something to show the Congo Embassy who were asking for a Letter of invitation. They never sent it. Thankfully, I managed to persuade the Embassy not to require the LOI.

This is a good place to escape from the rigours of living in Africa. I recommend it.

If you get the chance to visit the Republic of Congo -- don't miss the chance to spend a few nights at the Malonda Lodge located just south of Pointe Noire. Malonda Lodge is truely an unexploited jewel just waiting to sparkle!! Huts are situated on a hillside overlooking the Atlantic Ocean -- each hut has a queen size bed, beautiful bathroom with shower and air conditioning.

The common areas include a large dining hut and a separate bar/breakfast hut. On that note -- the food here is AMAZING!! Ask which fish is the freshest and go with it! The owners will likely be your waiters and the chef is truely a gem.

The pool is beautiful -- a curvy masterpiece situated on top of the hill overlooking the Atlantic. Bring your sunscreen!!!

Walk down the sculpted stairway to the beach to enjoy a swim in the Atlantic -- the strong currents will test your strength so definitely swim with care! If you venture onto the beach at night during the right time of year, you may be luckly enough to spot sea turtles nesting -- this is a very active turtle area. Also -- be wary of leaving any of your belongings on the beach!! The locals like to swipe sandals etc.......

Enjoy your visit!!!
