There are two scenic overlooks at the Diosso Gorge that can be accessed by car. One is smaller, accessed by dirt road, but provides a nice view of the gorge. The larger one, closer to paved road also provides a nice view, but has a makeshift barrier partially in place that you must drive through. There are no signs and no gate evident when you drive on to the overlook. Once you're there, however, local kids come up and place a bamboo pole across the barrier, blocking your way, and then asking for money.
We thwarted the extortion attempt by quickly piling back into the car and driving through/over the barrier before it was completely in place, sending the kids scrambling and the bamboo pole under the wheels of the Land Cruiser.
