“Diani a beautiful area to stay”

This was best way to holiday for a large group.We were a group of eight and the accommodation suited us perfectly as it was spacious. we mainly enjoyed the hospitality and friendliness of the staff. The area felt safe everybody was really friendly no matter where we went I would definitely stay there again if I visited Diani..

“Diani Beach is lovely, Kenda Villa not so much”

Kenda Villa left our group of 11 feeling slightly tricked, disappointed and overcharged. Falling short of promises from the start, several niggling issues kept on piling up, leaving the impression of disinterest in the comfort of the visitors.

Firstly, finding the place proved to be a minor challenge, as there was no sign either on the road or the gate indicating where the house was. After reaching the house, it was quickly evident that the facilities were not really even close to the image painted by the host with photographs.

On arrival, the kitchen was dirty with most of the kitchenware locked up, until we made the effort to ask to be allowed to use them. The entire cutlery proved to be horribly rusty. The almost daily occurrence of water cuts is far too frequent for this price range, even with the challenges posed by salty water at the coast.

There was no garden furniture - not to mention any deck chairs around the swimming pool. After mentioning this to the owner, we were provided with plastic seats. The pool was nice and brand new when we got there, but unusable after a week due to a lack of maintenance. Bugs, sand and dirt made us opt for the ocean every time, luckily a viable alternative in Diani.

The freezer mentioned on the internet is located in a separate room next to the kitchen. It was kindly made available to us, but locked by the owner and only opened upon asking, making for a rather inflexible solution as storing foodstuff there was entirely dependent on the presence of the owner.

A more serious issue we encountered was the inexplicable disappearance of money from luggage kept inside our rooms.

We really wish we could have ended our stay with a better review; however there was no effort to convince us otherwise. We discussed the problems with the owner right from the beginning, usually meeting little or no reaction.

We were travelling with another group of 10 people, who were paying the same amount as us for two other cottages in Diani. Both of these other houses provided that wonderful Kenyan coast hospitality most of us are familiar with. There is room for improvement and most of the issues could be remedied with relative ease. Sadly, Kenda Villa currently offers a two-star experience with a five-star price tag.

Kenda Villa offers an opportunity to experience the best of Kenya. It is disappointing to receive negative reviews as we pride ourselves on offering high levels of customer satisfaction to ensure our guests have a remarkable experience. Comments are also appreciated. We have also updated the signage to Kenda Villa.
In response to the review, it should be noted that all facilities advertised by Kenda Villa were available and used continuously by the group throughout their stay. Nothing advertised was absent.
Kenda Villa have not tried to show or advertise facilities or services through photographs, descriptions or recommendations for anything different than those facilities , services available. In fact Kenda Villa provided more facilities than advertised which the party enjoyed.
Kenda Villa also went the extra mile for the group in trying to ensure that their experience was a memorable one. For example the group were given the use of a new swimming pool which was not advertised. The group was also given a significant discount on the actual price advertised. This was because the advertised price was for a party of 8 with each additional person required to pay an extra £100 per week. In fact the group were 11 but paid for the price of 8. That meant a discount of £600 over the advertised price. Although this discounted price was agreed it does indicate that Kenda Villa was willing to provide extra value to the group to ensure a good experience.
Kenda Villa prides itself in its level of cleanliness. The Villa has 2 housekeepers who prior to the arrival of the group provided a thorough spring clean of the whole Villa. The housekeepers were also required to clean the Villa every day until the group left. The work of the housekeepers was thoroughly inspected on a daily basis. It is strange that the group said nothing about the state of the kitchen either when they arrived or during their stay, in spite of the fact that it was the same housekeepers who serviced the Villa throughout their stay.
Kenda Villa has no rusted cutlery. In fact there were 4 sets of cutlery available to the party during their stay. In addition the group did not make any mention of this issue on their arrival or during their stay. The Villa also has its own borehole, so water is and has been constant and available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week and there were no water cuts during the groups stay.
One of the 3 queries made by the group related to the lack of adequate seating in the garden. This is true because the Villa caters for up to 10 not 20 as the group invited their friends and there were times we had up to 20 people using our facilities. In fact the staff at the villa purchased additional seating as well as other items immediately this was pointed out.
Another query related to the pool. The pool was new and in fact had not been handed over by the contractor. However the staff at the Villa felt that additional value could be given to the group by allowing the use of the pool. It should be pointed out again that the provision of the pool was not advertised and therefore was not included in the price. After a week and due to the fact that the pool environs had not been fully completed and following the query by the group, it was decided that the pool could no longer be used until it had been handed over formally by the contractor. This issue was totally unforeseen. Kenda Villa has now completed the works and the pool is now fully functional.
The group had 24 hours a day 7 days a week access to 1 new Fridge Freezer and a Fridge in the kitchen as advertised. Access was not dependent on the presence of the owner as this was a self-catering booking and all those facilities were made available to ensure that this was the situation. The freezer referred to by the group was a third which was used by the Villa for long term storage and was not for the use of visitors and was not advertised. In any event it was kept in a locked room which contained cleaning and other materials and items for use by staff in the maintenance of the facilities.
There was no mention to staff of the disappearance of any money at any time. This is certainly a serious issue and it is surprising that this was not mentioned to staff at all. This review was the first that the Villa has heard of this. Logically, if this had happened then it would have been expected that the group would mention this at the time so that a thorough investigation is made. It is highly unusual for no mention being made of this at any time during the groups stay.
To reiterate, the group made 3 queries in 2 weeks. These were dealt with promptly on each occasion. Kenda Villa actively encourages visitors to make known any problems that they may have with their stay at the time they encounter them. However, it is of great concern that serious allegations concerning theft and other issues have been posted on this site without bringing this to the attention of Kenda Villas at the time so that it could have been appropriately dealt with.
The lack of such communication from the group during their stay and subsequent inclusion in the review indicates to Kenda Villa that the staff did in fact provide adequate services and facilities as advertised, responded immediately when informed of their dissatisfaction with the cutlery and the request for additional chairs for them to experience the swimming pool which had just been completed.
Kenda Villa provides the facilities, service and experience advertised. The Villa is open to constructive queries that will enable it to continuously improve its offer. In this case the Villa feels it provided all the facilities and services advertised, provided additional facilities not advertised, gave a significant discount of over 20% on what should have been paid and dealt with any queries promptly.
In conclusion its past visitors have had and future visitors will continue to have an enjoyable experience at Kenda Villa. We are customer focused and professional and aim to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of all visitors to the villa at all times.
