“A wonderful office retreat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2013

About 30 people from our office stayed at Kongoni Lodge and their camp site over the long Jamhuri (independence) day weekend in 2013. Throughout the planning stages of the trip, I was in constant contact with the team from Kongoni Lodge and they were superb! Very accommodating and not afraid to think outside the box when it came to accommodation this large group. One we got there, they welcomed us all very warmly, and took us on a tour around the facility ensuring that everyone got a glimpse at the treasure they had just discovered! It was an incredible trip and retreat. For those who camped at their campsite (Oloiden Camp Site) their stay was memorable, the tents were very comfortable and raised off the ground so even if it rained we were okay + the lake shores were little over 10m away!! The grounds at the camp site were large enough for us to host our team building activities there, complete with tea and snacks from the lodge! All in all it was an exceptionally memorable stay made possible by the very helpful and incredibly professional staff at Kongoni Lodge. I'd a stay there to my mother!

This is a review of 'Naivasha Kongoni Lodge', not the original and well known Kongoni Lodge & Game Valley on the ARR Reserve. Thank you though.

We stayed at Kongoni Lodge and the whole family enjoyed the weekend. Excellent, spacious accommodation, with interconnected rooms for families, beautiful gardens, a fresh swimming pool and beautiful setting, notably the veranda with giraffes, zebras, elands, hippos and warthogs grazing as you enjoy your drinks. A lot included in the package -game drives, visit to orphanage, feeding baby giraffes and zebras, boat rides and a very special surprise bush breakfast on the last day. This has to be considered if you think that the price is a bit high. Finally, having read previous reviews, I can tell you that Helen and Richard, the managers, have been looking into the quality of the food, which we found delicious. Do not hesitate much longer and spoil yourself!

To start with the good things first..the location of the lodge is excellent..stunning views of the lake, hills and lush green grounds. Warthogs, zebras grazing on the property. They even have a small orphanage that housed baby zebras ,impalas ,eland and the star lanky the baby giraffe.
the staff is friendly, wesley and rashid are efficient.
having said all this the fault lies in the food.despite telling well in advance that some of us were vegetarians. .we were not well catered for.my main course was pizza and boiled veggies.there was no soup and the salad was not fresh.
However the next meal got better as we conveyed our displeasure to the chef.
I feel that since it is a pricey and all inclusive kind of a place, the food shd be given more importance and the touch a little more personal.
Helen - the manager should have put a little more effort and heart in the kitchen matter s.
all and all a beautiful place for a weekend getaway..all great except the food

Kongoni is simply extraordinary, we had never been to Africa before this trip but were so pleased that we chose to stay at Kongoni Lodge. The staff and hospitality were brilliant, happy to help and to even teach us some Swahili. The rooms are large, luxurious and warm, a beautiful colonial feel throughout. We were able to enjoy our breakfast every morning with the giraffe and zebra grazing just a few meters away. We loved every moment, from the morning safari drives by the lake, in the hills or on the open expanse at Mindui to the Sundowner on the top of the one of the beautiful hills, with stunning panoramic views of the Rift Valley. We loved it so much, we were sad to leave, but we are already planning our return trip. Amazing and timeless memories that we will cherish forever.

Two day work retreat where we took over the whole lodge. Excellent service and staff. Glorious older building in a wildlife sanctuary. We enjoyed the walking safari down by the lake; also the fab game drive in the evening first to see large group of hippos close up; then back into the hills for a sundowner (drinks and dinner) beside a large open fire with wide views from the lookout point. Not cheap but a unique experience. Highly recommended for small business groups (10-12?) wanting a perfect retreat with attentive service, perfect informal meeting and working areas and very good wifi.

Room Tip: Swahili double room at the front has views out over the verandah.

I just finished this most amazing stay at Kongoni Lodge. Situated next to lake Oloiden (at the steps of lake Naivasha), this spot is just IMPECCABLE:
The location is ideal, right in the middle of a speck of land where giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, hartebeests, waterbucks, hyenas, gazelles, antilopes, hippos, flamingoes and countless other colourful birds, coyotes, foxes and other animals abound. The wildlife here has picked up over the years as the Kongoni team are doing their utmost to protect their property and open paths for animals. On the lodge garden itself, warthogs, horses, cats and birds are hopping about in the day time, and zebras and hippos sharing a graze in the evening, 5-10m from the outside salon.
One evening the extremely nice and competent Kongoni Lodge team (Cindy, Rob and their equally nice staff) organised a sun-downer dinner for us on top of a hill, a magical place arranged with the competence of people who enjoy life as it should.
The lodge itself consists of various rooms - each with their theme worked out to perfection - and modern facilities (well working internet, high pressure hot water shower and vintage bath tub) and a number of salons inside and outside, leaving you a dizzying array of choices for where you want to relax next.
The swimming pool area is ideally located, further away from the main mansion and soaked in the sun most of the time.
The whole mansion is really amazing and my experience here has been wonderful.

I strongly recommend this lodge for a week away in a vintage safari setting (with one of the oldest establishments in the area) while enjoying modern facilities... Kongoni lodge is

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Location & Transport: Kongoni Lodge is located on a 2,000-acre estate run by the Animal Rights Reserved Foundation (ARR), populated with vast wildlife, ranging from leopards, hyenas and migratory lions to buffalo and giraffe. It sits in the rift valley, overlooking the shores of Lake Oloiden, adjacent to Lake Naivasha. The lakes are surrounded by Acacia trees and are home to a large hippo population, as well as over 400 bird species, including Lesser Flamingoes. Due to the high altitude of 1884m/6180ft above sea level, mosquitos are very rare and malaria is virtually nonexistent. In peak season, daily Safarilink flights operate to and from Wilson airport in Nairobi, which only take 15 minutes, and flights to and from the Masai Mara are approximately 40 minutes. Alternatively, guests are welcome to book helicopter transport straight from our doorstep to any desired location. Car transport is possible, with Nairobi and Nakuru being two and three hours away, respectively. Accommodation & Communication: With over a century of history behind it, Kongoni is now a private house that opens up for guests offering privacy and exclusivity in a tradition colonial setting. The main house offers five en-suite bedrooms, all off a central courtyard designed to accommodate the late countess. All rooms feature newly renovated bathrooms with 24hr solar hot water. The Lodge is equipped with wireless internet, DVD library, satellite television and 24hr electricity. Further to the main house, just across the gardens, is the Pili Pili & Chui guest cottages both with 3 en-suite bedrooms, a private living room, dining room, kitchen and veranda. The cottages are available as extra guest bedrooms or to rent as a whole for a self-catered experience. We can offer a chef and nannies for families at an extra cost. The Kitchen: Our cuisine has developed as a blend of various cultures. Our house chef Samuel Ngige & Purity Nyaruai Wanjau (formerly of Hogmead, Nairobi) both come from families with a passion for cooking and have over 40 years between them in Mediterranean, European, North African, Indian, Swahili and many other cuisines. We cook healthy, locally sourced dishes that everyone can enjoy. We use locally farmed organic produce. Fruit and vegetables, free range eggs, yogurt and fresh cream come from local dairy farms. Fresh fish and seafood is bought in from the coast or Lake Victoria, and spices from Zanzibar provide the perfect seasoning. The veranda, gardens & pool: A major feature of the house design is the long veranda that overlooks the front lawns and gardens. The view is populated with Acacia trees all the way down to the Lake and towards the distant volcanic peaks. The overall impression is one of privacy, quiet and nature's abundance. The gardens are open to wildlife; one can sit peacefully on the veranda and watch zebra, warthog and giraffe that are frequent visitors and come remarkably close. Another attraction is the pool that provides a way to cool down, particularly in the hot and dry season. Wildlife conservancy & Animal Rights Reserved Foundation (ARR): Kongoni Lodge is situated within a wildlife conservancy named ARR Reserve. Guests have the option to go on a game drive where they can see our resident leopards, elands, giraffes, buffalos, warthogs, hyenas, impalas, jackals and many more. You can drive through the hills of Kongoni Estate and enjoy a sundowner around a bonfire or alternatively choose Mundui Estate where flat plains allow you to see Thomson's gazelles and bat eared foxes in their natural habitat. Animal Rights Reserved Foundation's aim is to aid wildlife and support local communities in order to create conservation awareness. From the base, which is located a 5 minute walk from the main house, they operate a mobile vet unit and veterinary centre and rescue animals from all around Kenya. A percentage of every guest bill will be donated on your behalf to ARR. ... more   less
