spent ten days here. food excellant, staff friendly and helpful. all in a beautiful location.hippos, monkeys, and cranes wandering around. fish eagles in the trees. bandas are a bit rustic, but spotlessly clean with copious hot water .beds comfy. close to hells gate. good bar. ban on music in the sleeping area.what's not to like.
would highly recomend the fishing/hippo watching boat trip to crater lake.

17th trip to africa and i couldn't recomend this place any higher

We chose to hire a basic tent and used the shared shower and toilet facilities, which were totally fine. Not luxurious, but well worth the price as it gives you a more authentic camping experience. Wake up to the snoring sound of the hippos in the morning and enjoy your breakfast while you watch monkeys in the beautiful trees that provides a nice shade over the property. The restaurant has good food (ref. earlier reviews: you can get a food poisoning anywhere, and reactions to different foods are highly individual), offer packed lunch and a nice view over Lake Naivasha. This is an excellent base for exploring Hell's Gate National Park (you can hire a nice bike cheaply here), climbing Mount Longonot or take a trip on the lake. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Try the basic tent for a more authentic camping experience.

The Fisherman's Camp is a few kilometers from both Naivasha and Nakuru towns in Kenya's rift valley of a well motorable road (see maps). Set among flower farms, the areas security is assured and fair.
The camp ground is sizable for the number of guests on a typical night but gets crowded especially in December as Kenyans go on holiday. The camp is cheap with tents going for 500 shillings a night. there's a club house within with a wide fare of cuisine and drinks.
Camping at fisherman's is not the typical camping in the wild though. Guest mostly drive in, have drinks and meals at the club house, pitch tent and sleep the night before leaving the following morning.
You wont make bonfires, latrines and a fence round your tent as would normally happen in a more open campsite.
While at Fisherman's, the nearby Hell's Gate National park is another good place to visit. A hike to the crater at the peak of Mt Longonot within the park is feat worth a try.

Room Tip: Carry water to the camp and other camp essentials, torch etc.

There are actually 2 parts to Fisherman's camp. The 'Top Camp' sometimes called Candelabra camp is better in my opinion.
We stayed over Easter on a whim- a busy period and had not booked anything. The manager of Top Camp was helpful. Lakeside not so much, they were not interested in finding anywhere for us to camp although they had the equipment, but the Top Camp workers let us stay in various bandas, tents for the 3 days. The tents were OK but bedding not great but we were grateful to have anything.
It was quiet at night which I like! There are a lot of complaints about bottom camp being rowdy so I was glad that top camp wasn't. The garden setting is just as nice as the lakeside if not nicer.
Also there are options of cottages at some of the better prices available around the lake.

Expect: basic bandas, long drop loos and basic showers they are hot in mornings and evenings when they will light the fire if you aren't in a cottage. Peace and quiet camping, party goes on downstairs.

Room Tip: Bandas are all really different- there's one that's near a flush toilet and has hot outdoor shower so ask for that one. Still basic but amenities are better than using the long drop.

We stayed here during the low-season and camping was 500KSh per person per night. On Friday/ Saturday it was quite noisy at times but I guess that's what happens in a popular place over the weekend. The shower facilities are very good for the budget, a log fire heats the water and the hot water doesn't run out. Toiletblock is fine for what it is, gets cleaned on regular basis.

The restaurant is nice for drinks and breakfast. Evening meals are on the expensive side but are a nice change after eating mainly ugali and sukuma wiki.

Atmosphere is good with friendly staff and owners that hang out in the restaurant and at the boat jetty and the great surroundings of the lake.

Easy access to Hell's Gate NP. We cycled from the camp to the park and it was doable. Be aware of people trying to take you on trips to the Crater Lake or other places. Make sure that it is clear what price you're paying and what you'll be getting!
Definitely recommend staying here from a camping point of view.

Room Tip: As bandas are overpriced, I would definitely recommend camping here.
