Stayed here for a workshop in 2008. My room was broken into with a crowbar while I was at breakfast on a Sunday AM. I lost a brand new laptop, camera, cellphone and my Ipod. The guard at the hotel gate could see the room from his post. AVOID THIS HOTEL UNLESS SECURITY ISN"T IMPORTANT TO YOU.

Stayed: June 2008, traveled on business

I have stayed in worse hotel in Kisumu so I think anyone from western world looking for hotels in Kisumu should just lower their expectation then your stay will be more satisfactory. The hotel has amazing view just as its name suggested, an ok swim pool with non-hotel guests as well. The room is to the basic direction, you can feel that it is a bit run down over the years. However with the price of 3600 kenya shilling for a double room incl. breakfast, I'd still say the deal is a good one.

This is a nice place to stay by African standards, but it is a 30-year old building, and it shows lack of upkeep. Be careful about things like the elevator stopping with its floor being 2-3 inches above the landing, and having to hold the button in until you get to your own floor; things like that make you wonder about maintenance and safety. We stayed here on two occasions about a week apart, and on the second visit, the paint was peeling badly all across the wall common with the bathroom (probably leaking), and two of four screws were missing from the door latch, so check out the room first and look at the little things. The fasteners were loose causing the jamb to be pulled out from the wall on the sliding door to the deck, which makes you wonder about security. We had our next door neighbor looking around the wall from their deck, so mind the curtains if you aren't decent; and as for security, someone in a dare-devil frame of mind could likely make it around the wall, even though it is three stories off the ground-dangerous, but possible. But you know, when you've been out in the bush for awhile, and you see a real, sit-down toilet, you tend to overlook the ring in the tub. Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad place, just not what you would expect in North America or Europe, and you do have to take extra care. The view from the room was outstanding, and a nice design feature is that the entire wall facing west is all glass. The food was ok in the dining room, but a lot of it was seasoned with cumin, and that got tiresome, so we ate some meals at the Imperial. The best thing about the room is that the AC worked well and was reasonably quiet, certainly better than the window-shakers often found in NA motels. It really gets down to priorities, and sometimes that is a hard thing to sort out when you're hot and tired. We stayed here a second time because the AC wasn't working at the Nyanza Club (which we liked better, located a couple of blocks away) and we needed to get cooled off and rest..

Room Tip: Alle Zimmer haben einen Balkon zum See. Die oberen Etagen kosten Kraft sollte der Aufzug immer noch nicht gehen.
