For 4 nights it was good. Staff friendly and helpful. Lift was a concern often not stopping at the desired floor. My wife preferred the stairs until it came to luggage time. Qquiet with few guests while we were there.

This old hotel (established in 1977) found in the suburbs of Kisumu is a good place to sleep. Given its age some things can just be expect about it. For example, old lift and doors. But it is generally good and comfortable for those who need a quiet and relaxing place.

Nice setting with views and access to Lake Victoria, the room was clean, the food was decent, the bar was well stocked. Nice outside seating areas. The only thing that could with a clean/filter/chlorine was the pool which was more like a green pond. Excellent laundry service but expensive if you want same day service.

This was my 2nd stay here, the first being in 2008.

Kisumu hotels can be hit and miss. In 2008 we moved here from another hotel that was, well not good and had a good stay.

However Kisumu does have other private hotels going up that we looked around for future trips and although more expensive mean that the Sunset will have to invest to keep people coming. It needs a lick of paint but I understand this is government owned hotel and investment is not likely.

The downsides. The lift is dodgy and the A/C never worked in the room. A fan was provided but not any good for Kisumu. Also don't believe in Wi-Fi.

On the good side. The manager and staff were helpful and charming. It has a pool. The best views of any hotel almost anywhere having a cold drink in the garden with monkeys running around playing will grab me most times. But please sort the A/C.

Breakfast was ok, ask for omlette, they are tasty and an evening meal of fried filleted talappia was really nice. I would stay again every time if the A/C was sorted.

Room Tip: The 4th floor give amazing views.

This hotel was indeed dated and in need of updating. But the room was clean, the shower provided hot water, the staff were pleasant, the grounds were inviting there was WiFi in main lobby adea and overall if was a satisfactory B hotel. At a cost of about $50 B&B... What do you expect?

We have eaten on the terrace a few times, Many items on the menu are not available . Service is poor. Allow very noisy parties of young folk on the property. NO security for guests coming on the property from the street . allowing Gangs and very noisy young people on the street. Very unsafe very disturbing . Pool area dirty .

Room Tip: Stay away from this hotel

This was by far, our worst lodging experience in Kenya. Fortunately, we were there for only one night. Although you can choose meals from a menu, they don't have most of what is listed there. There was a wedding there that night, so we had to sit at an outdoor table, where we waited for over an hour for food that never arrived while being eaten alive by mosquitos. We eventually returned to our rooms, sans dinner, whereupon dinner was delivered to the rooms, mostly not what we ordered, but a mountain of french fries (chips). The rooms were primitive and run down. The toilet seat slid off to the side when sat upon, and the glass in the sliding door was loose from its frame. We overlooked the pool which was filled with green algae water and many children who seemed unconcerned about the water quality. The best part was getting away from here. The staff was apologetic for the meals and provided us with a box lunch that was, surprisingly good. I would never stay here or recommend it to anyone else!
