“tilapias tilapia!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

tilapia beach has one of the best made tilapia...its a great place with full view of the fresh lake victoria...located within the cbd and so easily accessible!!!
It has plenty of outside seating and is right on the lake. They offer chicken and other meats, but who would want that when you have fish available????

“Great place for fresh fish the local way!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

Great place to get your classic Kenyan lakeside treat. Whole fish served with ugali, rice and veggies. Eaten with your hands (plenty of hand washing provided).

Best for lunch, at night there are too many mosquitoes! Don't expect anything too fancy.

“Tilapia high cost..........”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2013

We went here one sunday morning.....It is a great buzz of life people washing their cars ,reggae music playing families enjoy meals with playful laughter......Everything was great until I got my bill. I paid 1200ksh for my fish yes it was a big one but hey I never paid that much in Kenya...I did say my piece respectfully but hey it's about £8 and I guess I was with a Muzungu :-) so I guess that didn't help :-)

The food was god though and was well worth it. I guess it was coupled with the charm of the ladies who owned the restaurant...

“Fantastic fish, great location, but a bit on the pricey side.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

Hidden furhter along Marine Drive, past the smaller restaurants that also offer similar dishes, is a really nice restaurant. Popular with the middle classes. It has plenty of outside seating and is right on the lake. They offer chicken and other meats, but who would want that when you have fish available? My friend and I ordered two large fish wet fry - fried fish in a stew with loads of sukuma wiki on top and a nice plate of ugali - They also offer chips and rice. The sauce and the fish was awesome. Service was good and friendly. The only problem was the price. I wasn't expecting a large fish to cost Ksh1,500 and a medium to cost Ksh1,300. Granted, the fish was large, the area and restaurant looked nice, but it's overpriced for what it is. In a village 50km I got the same kind of food, albeit slightly less tasty, for a fifth of the price! Still, for a treat, it's a great place to go. I just wasn't expecting it to cost that much! All in all, 2 large fish, 2 sodas, and 2 ugali cost around Ksh3,200

“WET FRY!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

This collections of picnic tables by the lake was simple, but oh my goodness, the wet fry tilapia with brown ugali was unbelievable. Whole (huge!) talapia were fried and then prepared with a topping of tomatoes, kale, and other flavorings. You simply rip pieces of the fish flesh from the skeleton with your fingers and enjoy. Messy, messy, business, but so delicious!
