I stayed at The Vic Hotel in April 2012 and the hotel is not worth the amount one pays. The staff especially those at the front desk are TOTALLY unfriendly (their attitude is more like they are doing you a favour to stay at their hotel and yet you are paying steep prices for Kisumu!) The ladies at the reception are the most unfriendly and usually roll their eyes at your request and dont have a single sense of courtesy! The restaurant waiters are friendly though. The tiles in the bathroom are slippery meaning that you can fall quite easily.

I would definately not recommend one to stay here, look elsewhere! There are many other good hotels in Kisumu!

The best hotel in Kisumu.
Clean, simple and nicely decorated ... with friendly and efficient staff.
The location is not great sadly (in the Nakumatt carpark), plus they don't really have a restaurant ... only a kinda restaurant-bar next door.

As far as Kisumu goes, this place is well above average. However, the receptionist that we booked with and greeted us on arrival has a shocking attitude to everything. Apart from that the Hotel was adequate but nothing outstanding. It was nice and clean and quiet. If there is room, definitely go to Kiboko Bay (owned by the same people but much better attitude) as it's far nicer and you will enjoy it a lot more. I'd put this as a firm number 2 of the places we've stayed at in Kisumu in the last 3 months (Jumuia, Great Lake Hotel, Macedonia Resort Club, Vic Hotel and Kiboko Bay Resort) and I would stay here again if Kiboko Bay was full or I needed to be located closer to the city centre.

Room Tip: Room 110 was a good one - Ground floor and nice and quiet.

Business hotel that has added another wing and a swimming pool and a room with gym equipment.Reception was quick and efficient, perhaps they remembered me from before. The residents bar is quiet and a good place to relax, watch the football and catch up using the free wi-fi.Used the pool in the early morning and it was certainly adequate. The adjoining Mon Ami restaurant is also convenient for meals and the food and service is quite good.Room was as clean as before, complimentary toiletries and an essential mosquito net.Hard to fault anything for a business trip.New wing much better obviously.

Room Tip: take the rooms in the new wing.

This modern Hotel is like a business hotel in Europe. I would not like to stay there more than a night. It is next to a big shopping mall. Bar/restaurant next door belongs to the hotel is fine as well - but nothing special.
Wifi is open and of reasonable quality.
A bad thing are the mosquito nets, which do not protect at all. A second minus are the windows if you stay in the ground floor everyone can enter your room if you sleep with open windows - the window grating is missing.

Booked some friends in here after a terrible time at the Sunset Hotel. The hotel is about a year old and still in good condition.A clean airy glass and marble lobby with the reception girls being helpful in suggesting places to eat and information on Kisumu city. The rooms are spacious and modern with decent airconditioning and modern bathrooms. The hotel has a small gym on the first floor and a nice cool residents bar next to it.There is wireless wi-fi throughout the hotel, though the lobby and the bar have the strongest connection. The building of another 24 rooms on the other side of the hotel is nearly complete as is the new pool. They have a breakfast room though other meals need to be had at their sister restaurant a few steps away.Perhaps with the expansion they may have a complete meal service.Being nosy we also found a large conference room being used for seminars. Its located in a corner of the mall compound so very convenient for shopping and transport.
An enjoyable stay at a clean modern hotel ,nothing much to really complain about. The electricity went off once but they have a generator so no problems with that.We also visited their other establishment the Kiboko Bay Resort which was a delight as usual.

Room Tip: Book the new wing as original wing is close to the pool
